Children see and understand more than we realize and they are often more compassionate than adults. One little girl in Michigan noticed that some of her classmates didn’t have enough money to buy milk. It broke her heart and she decided that she needed to do something about it. She started saving her own money and raising money to help every kid in her class buy milk.

Her mother explained how her daughter Sunshine started taking money to the school to help.

She explained how she found out about her daughters act of kindness. She said,

“I asked her what she was doing with the baggie of money. Her response put me in tears…’I am going to give it to my friend at school because she don’t get milk for snack. Her mom don’t have any milk money and I do.’”

It was that simple to Sunshine.

She had friends that were in need of help and a way to help them. She didn’t hesitate to do the right thing. To her, there was never any doubt about what needed to be done. Her mother was shocked and impressed by her daughter’s kindness.

Her teacher also became aware of what Sunshine was doing. She said that she was always upset when the kids didn’t have money for milk. She is glad that Sunshine cared enough to help. She said,

“I have always felt sad when I have had to tell a student, ‘no,’ when they ask if they can have milk. Thanks to Sunshine’s act of kindness for one student, it has grown so much that it now includes everyone, which makes my heart happy.”

Mrs. Hausher decided that the school could do more to help too.

If Sunshine was going to spend her own money to help out a student, others could do the same. The teacher added,

“We will do this. I always tell my students when they do something that really amazes me, I get kindergarten goosebumps. I got kindergarten goosebumps from my toes to the top of my head.”

While everyone seems to be making a big deal out of Sunshine’s kindness, the little girl doesn’t see it as such.

It was just the right thing to do. In her eyes, it was a pretty simple act. Her mother said that she is proud of her daughter and knows that this is just the beginning for her. She said,

“She doesn’t understand the impact she’s made. But now she knows she can do whatever she puts her mind to.”

Sunshine also made a GoFundMe page to help raise money to buy milk for more students. She has raised thousands of dollars. Her post on the fundraiser page is simple. It says,

“Sunshine would like for all of her friends in her Kindergarten class to have milk for snack break every day with her. She went started to count the money in her snowmobile bank and stated.my friends mom doesn’t have milk money but I do so her mission to help her friend began.”

That’s enough to get most people to donate.

If a child can do the right, thing, we should all be able to do it. A school milk doesn’t cost much money, but it can make a big difference for a child who wants it.

Some children don’t have much to eat or drink at home and the only food they get is at school. When they find out they can’t afford milk that the other kids are getting, it can be embarrassing and even confusing for them. No child should have to feel this way.

Thanks to Sunshine, many of them won’t.

This little girl is doing amazing things. If she can make a difference like this at such a young age, imagine what she will do when she is older. Kindness and love are easy to show. Sunshine has inspired more people to do so.
