When animals know that there’s no one watching them, they’ll tend to behave differently and be a little bit more adventurous. Hidden trail cameras are often installed in the woods by wildlife photographers, hunters or observers, and they allow us to see how animals behave in their natural surroundings. As it turns out, some wild animals definitely have a bit of a mischievous and wacky side.
These 50+ photographs of unsuspecting animals are definitely proof of that!

1) Run, deer, run!
What would you do when you suddenly saw a flying squirrel headed your way? We’d imagine running away is the first thing that would pop up in your mind – and that’s exactly what this deer must’ve thought.
2) Love is in the air
This hidden picture just proves how beautiful and cute love can be. These two four-footers decided to have a little alone time and give each other a secret peck on the lips. How adorable!
3) A broken trail cam
The owner of this trail camera had no idea why the thing suddenly stopped working. When he inspected the lens, he was suspecting that someone deliberately broke it. It turns out that a bird was just a little bit too curious and decided to take a peek into the lens – this was the last picture that the camera had ever taken.
4) Perfect teamwork
Teamwork makes the dream work, right? That’s certainly what these couple of raccoons must’ve thought, who were desperately trying to reach a feeder at a fairly high location. They couldn’t get there on their own, so they just decided to climb on top of each other to retrieve it. Those raccoons surely are ingenious!
5) Ideal timing
You can definitely say that this picture was taken at exactly the right moment. This owl decided that he would try and attack a deer. Maybe he just was really hungry? In any case, this deer and owl likely won’t be the best of friends for a while.
6) Raccoon photobomb
Photobombing usually ends up in a great and hilarious picture – but it’s even better when animals do it! These two deer were simply minding their own business when this raccoon managed to spot the hidden camera. It looks like this raccoon was taking a selfie!
7) Raccoons can have parties too
Who says raccoons can’t have fun? This feeder seemed to be malfunctioning, but the local raccoons didn’t let that stop them from throwing a small party. This image was definitely taken afterward, as the furry animals look completely tired and exhausted from all their exciting nightly activities.
8) Simply too adorable!
You might not be able to recognize them, but these kittens are small foxes. Look at how sweet and adorable they look! They’re residing at a large den site with mommy fox and enjoying life. Luckily, this trail cam was around to capture one of their cute moments.
9) A little motherly assist
When you’re growing up, not being able to reach all of the higher things can be a bit of a pain. Luckily for this small four-footer, mama bear was around to give her child a little lift.
10) Absolutely fabulous
This deer wanted to check if he could do an impression of a human being by standing on his two feet, and thinking that there was no one around he struck a pose – which can only be described as fabulous.
11) Morning stretch
Plenty of people like to stretch as a morning ritual, and this bear is a big fan of stretching to start the day as well. Rise and shine everyone!
12) Timon and Pumbaa
This raccoon just casually decided to catch a ride on his friend, a hog. You definitely can’t deny the uncanny resemblance between them and Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King.
13) The perfect haircut
Some shots are just too perfect. This trail camera is motion-activated, and a wild deer triggered the camera early in the morning. This deer was particularly stylish thanks to his seemingly new haircut!
14) Foxy and cute
“This fox has 8 kits and I got this trail cam pic of them nursing in front of the den site,” the photographer of this great image wrote. What an amazing and adorable picture!
15) Getting ready to wrestle
It looks like an image from the movie ‘Fight Club’ or the Street Fighter video games as these two hedgehogs prepare to do battle against one another. These two spikey animals definitely seem ready to wrestle!
16) A threatening look
This person set up a trail camera at a hunting ground where coyotes reside, and this was by far the best photo that was snapped. The look of this threatening and snowy coyote speaks more than a thousand words.
17) Jumping right in
The timing couldn’t be any better as a bunny decided to jump in this barrel. Perhaps a friend was waiting there, or it was warmer inside? In any case, this rabbit definitely thought that the barrel was more interesting than the surrounding snow.
18) Making it rain
Raccoons are real team players. This furry animal decided to climb on the food sprinkler and keep pulling it so that all of his raccoon buddies would have plenty to eat. A generous friend!
19) Half tiger, half panther
Whether this Indian tiger was testing out a new camouflage or simply took a dive in the mud to cool off a little bit, there’s no denying that this trail cam captured a stunning picture. The mud makes it look like half a panther!
20) Bumping into the camera
Animals bumping into trail cameras is something that’s completely unavoidable, but it usually ends up in some really great shots. This deer definitely wanted to see the lens up close!
21) Bon appetit!
Otters have to be one of the most hilarious animal species out there, as their facial expressions are just always on point. This furry otter was simply enjoying his meal when he was suddenly startled by the camera. He must’ve thought the lens looked a little bit fishy…
22) Who’s looking?
Some trail cameras are more well-hidden than others, and it looks like this bear thought he was being followed. This picture of the bear looking behind his back is just too funny!
23) Incoming!
Flying squirrels and deer, they just don’t seem to get along very well. This shot was taken at a perfect moment, and the deer absolutely has no clue that a small furry animal is about to land on its back. Talk about a surprise!
24) Battle of the birds
These two impressively sized Bald Eagles are about to battle it out, and they’ve even got a small audience. One little bird, in particular, seems to be enjoying the spectacle, casually watching in the snow.
25) Smile for the camera
This adorable and playful deer was able to spot a trail camera during the day, and he figured that it was the ideal moment to make a funny face. He posed with his tongue out and it ended up in a really funny and goofy picture.
26) “Get off my property!”
Animals can be very defensive, and this deer wasn’t too happy when some unannounced guests showed up in his territory. After all, a cornfield is definitely something you don’t want to share with other deer.
27) An Easter surprise
Squirrels will look for their food just about everywhere. In this picture, Easter came a little bit early as this adorable squirrel was looking for food inside a couple of easter eggs. How cute!
28) Squirrel surprise
Cameras that are activated by motion can definitely shoot some interesting pictures. This squirrel wanted to check out the lens, but it looks like he flew just a little bit too close.
29) “I need some privacy!”
Animals have just as much right to privacy as humans do. This trail camera snapped a picture of a fox who was just about to do its business out in the woods. Oops!
30) Hover magic trick
When deer are excited, they’ll tend to jump up in the air sometimes. This one was seemingly chasing a friend and managed to get a little bit of airtime – something this hidden trail cam was able to capture perfectly. It’s as if the deer is hovering above the ground!
31) Motherly love
There aren’t many things that are cuter than the motherly love between two animals. The owner of this trail cam was thrilled to see this immensely cute picture of a whitetail doe spending some quality time with her little fawn.
32) Lynxes deserve some rest too
“This lynx is laying around enjoying some warm spring weather up here in the Yukon Territory,” the owner wrote about this adorable (and perhaps a little bit lazy) lynx. Resting and rolling around in the snow, what more could a lynx possibly want in life?
33) Going for a morning run
This dark image looks like a shot from a horror movie, but that doesn’t make it any less spectacular. This grim and cold picture of a coyote was taken early in the morning. The owner didn’t even expect to see coyotes in the area and was hoping to get pictures of deer instead.
34) The perfect hiding spot
Who knew that ‘hide and seek’ would be popular amongst deer as well? This one definitely seems to have found a perfect hiding place in some kind of wooden construction.
35) Posing for the camera
Even though these three friends didn’t pay much attention to the ‘hidden’ camera, the three deer were more than happy to strike a pose. With one looking away, one looking towards the lens and another inspecting the ground, this turned out to be a cool and seemingly choreographed picture.
36) “It’s a fraud!”
This furious animal definitely didn’t seem to appreciate his fake counterpart. Apparently, it doesn’t like to be mocked so he decided to charge it with all of its might.
37) On the bucket list
Somehow, someway, this deer managed to get his head stuck on a large bucket. That’s definitely something you don’t see every day! Hopefully, this deer was able to free himself out of his unique predicament because it probably isn’t fun to carry a bucket on your head all day.
38) Howling in the night
A hidden trail camera managed to get an absolutely splendid shot of a pack of wolves. This trio was howling in the night, but it’s the two glowing eyes in the background that make for an even cooler shot.
39) Casually staring into the camera
The look on this bird’s face while is simply indescribable. He looks like he could fit right into a cartoon with his fearful yet funny stare!
40) Family reunion
A pack of deer running around together is fairly common, but this was definitely a very large gathering. One thing is for sure: all deer eyes were focused on the perhaps not so well-hidden trail cam.
41) Hitching a ride
A small wild cat decided that he’d had enough of walking for the evening. So, instead? He’ll just hitch a ride with his friend Mr. Water Buffalo for a relaxing way to transport himself. The buffalo doesn’t seem to mind at all.
42) Porcupine Fight Club
Looks like there’s a small tiff happening in the porcupine world. This trail cam caught these two spiky porcupines duking it out in the middle of the night. They’re so perfectly in the camera’s frame it’s almost like they knew they’d have an audience.
43) Oh deer…
These trail cameras sure do capture a lot of funny and strange moments. It looks like these deer were getting a little crazy on this particular night. The first few frames appear to be two deer mating but then as they continue to come into view…there’s most definitely a third getting involved.
44) Let me get that for you, honey.
So many adorable moments have been caught on these trail cams so far and this one is no exception! As a pair of deer were strolling past this particular camera, one of them decided to help the other by giving them a little bit of quick grooming.
45) Confrontation in the wild
They call it ‘the wild’ for a reason. When you’re out in nature, the rules of civilization no longer apply. It’s all about survival of the fittest out there. Here, a trail cam captured a stand-off between a coyote and two deer. Looks like the deer have strength in numbers.
46) Run, pig! Run!
Although we may not like it, stalking and hunting prey is a part of life. In this rarely seen moment, a female lion is slowly stalking a wild boar and is on the verge of pouncing so that she can feed her family.
47) Something evil lurks outside
Scary masked monster or overly-lit raccoon face? At first glance, you might think you’re seeing a creature from another planet. But, as it turns out, it’s just a very curious raccoon looking for its close up.
48) Calm down, you two!
Deer seem to be the ones that like to hang out around these trail cams the most. Most of the time, they’re quite hilarious, but these two are in a very serious ‘conversation’ at the moment. Both on their hind legs, it’s clear that they’re not the best of friends.
49) Silly little deer
Oh, look! Another deer caught on camera being silly! This time, a curious deer walks right on up to the lens and sticks out its tongue at the viewer. Okay, they were probably just going in for a lick to determine what the heck this contraption is, but either way – the shot is adorable.
50) Now they’re just being sassy
We’ve seen funny deer, silly deer, fighting deer, and scared deer – now? Sassy deer! One of them appears to be winking directly into the camera, while the other one stoops down to make sure they get in the shot as well. Too funny!
51) I can’t look!
No one ever wants to think about a cute, harmless little bunny being someone’s dinner, but the truth of the matter is – a tiger’s got to eat. In this harrowing shot, a white rabbit is being stalked by a very scary, very intimidating tiger.
52) Battle of the territory
Eagles and hawks are beautiful and majestic, but they aren’t the type of birds you want to mess with. These two beautiful birds of prey are in the midst of a territory battle right in front of the trail camera.
53) Well, that’s unsettling
The person who shared this photo said that their parents were having deer parts and deer blood show up in their yard and didn’t know why. They set up a camera and it wasn’t long until they caught this footage. That would explain it!
54) He’s a little desperate it seems
Someone set up a motion camera in their yard where they also happen to have a decoy deer for target practice. One evening, the cameras started to record and caught a very “special” moment happening.
55) We didn’t know bobcats could fly
Looks like this wild cat got a bit spooked as they were approaching this trail camera. The funny shot just happens to catch the bottom half of the bobcat as it leaps multiple feet in the air. Look at those adorable legs!
In short, hidden cameras out in the wilderness can capture cute, incredible, amazing or just simply stunning moments of unsuspecting furry animals! Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
