When the first singer opened his mouth, I got goosebumps.

There is something so magical about a bunch of people coming together to create something. This is especially true now, when building communities and connecting with people is more important than ever.

When you have someone backing you up, that can be so much better than being alone. You can give each other so much support and it can amount to a really powerful thing. It’s easier to do something when you have a whole team or family behind you.

This is especially true when you’re creating art. Whether it be music, dance, comedy, etc — everything is so much better when we collaborate.

These nine men perfectly proved this point back in 2018 when they decided to take a crack at their own rendition of Josh Groban’s song, “You Raise Me Up.” Part of BYU Vocal Point, they are an a capella group.

What makes this cover even more special is that it is set in some type of mysterious woods. We’re not sure exactly where they are but it’s the lush green wilderness, so it’s already super relaxing and pleasing to the eye.

It starts off with just one young man singing alone:

“When I am down, and, oh, my soul, so weary

When troubles come, and my heart burdened be

Then, I am still and wait here in the silence

Until you come and sit awhile with me.”

Soon after, he is joined by a fellow singer and they begin harmonizing together.

One by one, more men continue to join and add in layers that make the cover so spectacular. Some are adding in harmonies and backup vocals while others are focusing more on percussive aspects of the performance, using nothing but their mouth to beatbox.

It’s almost hard to believe that this is all a capella, as it sounds so full and lush! It was also recorded, edited and produced by McKay Crockett, who certainly had a hand in making it sound so good.

Throughout the entire performance, the boys walk on throughout the woods. They all look so happy to be there as they sing with huge smiles on their face. It’s so infectious, it feels almost impossible to watch this and not want to smile a little bit too.

They continue to sing the empowering lyrics:

“You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains

You raise me up to walk on stormy seas…

…I am strong when I am on your shoulders

You raise me up to more than I can be.”

How fitting is it that they are singing a song all about lifting each other up while huddled together in a big group, lifting each other up? This is exactly the type of positive energy the world needs more of right now.

And to continue on with the theme of being supportive of one another, at the end, we’re in for a little surprise.

Toward the end, the nine singers are joined by a whole choir of people who back them up with their breathtaking vocals and smiles. You can see that they are all just leaning on each other and, well, raising each other up!

The flawless performance clocks in at almost 14 million views — that’s a whole lot of people! We guess it is safe to assume that we’re all trying to lift each other up right now.
