Sibling rivalry can be powerful at times but the bond between siblings is a force all its own.
For Mary Pine, 95, and her ‘little brother,’ 94-year-old, Bob Taylor, 2016 was a good year. It was the year that Mary surprised her brother by showing up at his home in Atlanta, Georgia. The reunion was caught on video before the two parted ways for what would end up being 5 long years.
Five years would go by before Mary and Bob would get the chance to see each other again.
Mary was spending her days in an assisted living community in Ambler, Pennsylvania. Due to COVID-19 protocols, seeing each other in person became even more difficult. Mary and Bob were only able to talk on the phone.
Mary’s birthday was coming up so Bob’s two grandchildren decided to make a little magic happen.
Bob’s granddaughters, Morgan Taylor and Kenzie Hardin, made it possible for their grandpa to see his sister after so many years. On July 4, 2021, the three family members hopped in the car and drove 13 hours to surprise Mary for her birthday.
Unbeknownst to Mary, a surprise party was set up in the common area of the assisted living facility just for her.
With the camera rolling, Mary slowly enters the room using her walker and doesn’t see her brother right away. She looks at each person and then notices someone standing in the room.
Mary’s jaw drops when she sees someone very familiar.
She knows who it is right away and makes her way over to Bob. The look on her face shows how overjoyed she is to see her little brother after so many years.
In the video, you can hear Bob joking with his sister about having to put up with his granddaughters for 13 hours in the car. You can hear the family laughing in the background at Bob’s joke. Mary can’t even laugh she is still too overwhelmed. It’s clear this moment means so much to her.
She walks over and embraces her brother leaving not a dry eye in sight.
“It definitely pulled some heartstrings. I’m so happy he got the opportunity to see her again and her reaction was priceless. I know they were both overwhelmed with joy and love and that’s all I could ask for as a granddaughter.” – Morgan, Bob’s granddaughter.
Mary and Bob were lucky to have had the chance to see each other again.
Bob’s granddaughters made it all possible and it will be a memory no one will ever forget.
The video of Mary and Bob’s heartfelt reunion has since gone viral and brought so much joy to so many.
