This is what a true hero looks like.

Bilal Quintyne of Smyrna, Georgia, was out running one morning when he noticed a woman in a wheelchair struggling to get home.

It was a hot day, and he could tell that the woman needed some help. He stopped to ask if she was OK, and she explained that the battery in her electric wheelchair had died while she was trying to get back home.

She asked Bilal if he would call her husband to ask him to come pick her up.

Bilal explained that he would just take her home instead. She seemed surprised by his suggestion. She didn’t expect a stranger to volunteer to push her over a mile away. Bilal explained:

“She asked if I could call for help and I said, ‘I’m in good shape. Where is your house? I’ll take you myself.’”

Bilal is a boxer and is in great shape.

Still, the heavy wheelchair was hard for him to push. At one point, he had to push it up a steep hill. A friend of his videotaped it all, but Bilal refused to admit that he was doing anything out of the ordinary. He said:

“I don’t care what you’re going through, when God calls you for help, you’re supposed to help. Period. Period. When He stops you and tells you to help, you stop and help. Period.”

The woman was very thankful for his help.

She was just hoping someone would come along and let her use their phone to call her husband. She never expected a young man would offering to push her home. Bilal is no ordinary young man, though. He clearly has a big heart. He explained:

“I was doing my job as a man. There’s so much hatred in the world and it costs nothing to love someone. My only goal in sharing this is to restore the values we’ve lost as people.”

His friend shared the video, and it went viral.

Bilal stayed humble, though. He posted on the video:

“God’s Plan. God’s Work. Her battery gave out and she didn’t know how she was getting home. God blessed me with an able body. So WE pulled her home. A mile or not I wouldn’t go home until she was home. Period.”

Bilal wasn’t just going to stop there, though. The more he talked to the woman, the more he felt obligated to help her. She explained to him that she was on her way to the grocery store when the battery died. Bilal felt bad that she didn’t get her groceries, so he offered to get them for her. He said:

“When I learned she was on her way to the grocery store, I offered to go food shopping for her, but she wouldn’t allow me. She was crying, very grateful, and said that many people had driven by without stopping to help.”

Bilal wasn’t about to walk by and ignore her.

He didn’t have to stop, but something compelled him to do so. He knew that she needed someone right then and there, and he was meant to be that person. Bilal may be a great boxer, but he is also a hero to this woman and the many people who watched the video.

After the video went viral, Bilal started a GoFundMe page to get the woman a handicapped-accessible van.

We should all take a lesson from Bilal and help other people in need. Just because someone is a stranger doesn’t mean you can’t stop and offer them some help.

This woman will never forget that kindness that Bilal showed her, and she likely won’t be the last person he helps. This young man is going far in life. He has worked hard to get in good shape, and he isn’t afraid to use his strength for good. Hopefully, he has as much success in the boxing ring as he does with helping others. He definitely deserves some recognition for his kindness.
