She’d been popular among the students at her school. But here, the kids refused to associate with her, often bullying and calling her names.

Still, she had managed to find a single companion in fellow student Evan Martinez.

In an interview with Fox News, Evan explained:

“She didn’t have any friends when she came to this school.”

“Then I actually became her friend, and then randomly we became best friends.”

“They are very close. They do everything together,” said Bailey’s mother, Donna Molinar.

One day, after being bullied during lunch, Bailey phoned Evan in tears.

“At school, we were at lunch and two girls didn’t want to be my friend,” she said.

Luckily, the kind-hearted Evan Martinez knew exactly what to do.

It seemed Evan had a plan he’d been saving for the next time Bailey had a bad day.

“I always knew that she would be down, so I would bring her back up to the high sky,” he said.

After hearing about her experience, he recruited his mom for a ride. “He said he’s ready to go. He’s ready to do this,” Ruby Jimenez recalled.

Alongside music blasting from his mother’s van, he serenaded her to “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars.

The song is from the artist’s 2010 debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans. It’s described as a mixture of folk and tropical, with lyrics describing the importance of friendship.

The song itself is upbeat and sweet. The lyrics have been described as “saccharine”—but honestly, the song was the perfect selection for this particular situation.

In the video, recorded by Evan’s mom, you see the 7-year-old serenading Bailey as she stands awe-struck in her driveway.

Bailey later told Fox News: “He just jumped out of the van and started singing.”

“He’s always protected me, even when we first met.”

“I just thought that he’ll never let me go.”

After the adorable performance, Evan’s mother uploaded the video to Facebook, where it has since gone viral.

“That is so precious. What a sweet little boy.”

“Aww how cute, it made me cry. I wish I had a best friend like that. He has a good heart. Hope they stay friends for life.”

“Oh my, that was great. He is a good friend. The world needs more caring people like him.”

It’s impossible not to fall in love with such a sincere display of care and affection— especially in mini, 7-year-old size.

Since the video’s been uploaded, it’s been viewed more than 100,000 times.

Bailey’s great-grandmother even commented, writing:

“My great-granddaughter is one lucky girl to have such a great friend and his family in her life. I think she will have a beautiful memory of this day. God bless them both.”
