People often judge others by their smiles. It’s one of the first things we notice about a person and it can leave a lasting impression. Not everyone is lucky enough to be blessed with a perfect set of pearly whites to complete their grin, though.
This is where Brazilian dentist Felipe Rossi comes in. Wanting to give beautiful smiles to disadvantaged people, he founded an organization, Por1sorriso, that travels the world to provide dental services to low-income individuals. Through Rossi and his team’s work over the years, they’ve accumulated a gallery of amazing before and after transformations.

Felipe often shares photos of his patients on his Instagram account, and this 28-year-old woman is one of them. She comes from the back-country area of Bahia, an area in Brazil.

Felipe’s job is no joke. It took his team hours on a plane, a bus, and a car just to reach Macururé, one of the poorest municipalities in the state of Bahia. Seeing this girl’s new smile, their trip was more than worth it.

Felipe posted the transformation photo of this charming elderly woman on his Instagram account to mark his 38th birthday. Thanking everyone who messaged him with affection, he said that being able to do his job is the biggest birthday present he has received.

While the people Felipe and his team help do end up looking better physically in the end, he believes that the results of their work go beyond just aesthetics. Their real mission is helping those who have been forgotten.

Kids often get into little scuffles. Nine-year-old Pedro is no exception. He chipped his tooth while playing ball at school and waited two years for his smile to be restored to its original state.

Camila lost some of her front teeth to cavities when she was twenty-one years old. She didn’t get the gap it left filled until she twenty-seven because of how expensive the procedure is. Now, she is no longer embarrassed to smile and can finally enjoy eating again.

Aside from operational and logistical concerns, one of the organization’s biggest challenges is how they can maintain the excellence and quality of treatments they give to people. But thanks to the many people who support them, they’ve managed to do this and bring their services to places as far as Kenya.

Obviously, Por1sorriso’s efforts aren’t limited to just their home base of Brazil. They’ve also taken their mission to countries like Mozambique.

As their reach grows wider, the team also grows bigger. Currently, the organization has over 4,000 registered volunteers in their database.

The group has undoubtedly gone far in fulfilling their mission, but they show no signs of stopping just yet. Their Instagram page remains updated on their latest trips and the happy faces of their patients.
