Cooking up some positivity.

When someone sets out to do harm, it is understandable to have feelings of fear or anger.

However, Carl Wallace, the owner of Diablo’s Southwest Grill in Augusta, did the unthinkable after a would-be robber broke into his restaurant.

The offer of a lifetime.

As Carl was picking up the glass from the shattered window of his restaurant, he wasn’t angry or scared.

Carl was wondering how someone could get to such a low point. Maybe there was something he could do?

He took to Facebook to propose an opportunity for the unidentified person who broke into his establishment.

Not your typical response to burglary.

Wallace wasn’t in the business of public shaming or angry online rants.

He posted a very different kind of response on his restaurant’s Facebook page that addressed the robbery.

He included the caption: “Our burritos are such a smash hit we’ve got people breaking in at 4am for their fix. So if ya see our door looking hurricane fabulous at Wheeler Rd this is why.”

A thief is offered a second chance.

Wallace saw the situation as an opportunity to give someone a helping hand. He continued his message on Facebook with a proposition.

“To the would be robber who is clearly struggling with life decisions or having money issues… please swing by for a job application.”

Forgiveness doesn’t cost a thing.

The surveillance video from the break-in would shock most people. The burglar is seen searching for money but finding none.

Wallace continues to encourage the would-be thief to better his life. He writes,

“There are better opportunities out there than this path you’ve chosen. No police, no questions. Let’s sit down and talk about how we could help you and fix the road you’re on. Sincerely Carl”. He also includes his personal cell number in the Facebook post.

Wallace is shocked when his message goes viral.

The post on the restaurant’s Facebook page quickly goes viral and comments start flooding in supporting Carl’s positive nature.

He posted a follow-up message letting everyone know how much he appreciated the public outpouring of support.

Kindness rather than hate.

“I never imagined what started out as a frustrating day would turn into an international news story. The outpouring of love from our hometown and now the world to our story has left us all speechless. Love, kindness, forgiveness will always be a better solution than hate.” – Facebook@Diablo’s Southwest Grill

A much-needed message.

We are taught at an early age not to steal or damage property but we also learned at an early age to never give up on someone.

One person online wrote, “There is so much negative in our world today, it’s so refreshing to see someone turn a negative into something positive and good! God bless you, Carl Wallace!”
