Zach Bowen is a good kid.

The industrious 19-year-old always works hard and doesn’t like having to waste his hard-earned cash.

Unfortunately, the teen got an unpleasant surprise when he learned his car needed unexpected repairs.

Zach needed his 2006 Ford Taurus to get around, so waiting for a repair wasn’t an option. He immediately brought his car to West Omaha Auto Service, where the staff fixed it up.

That’s where things get interesting…

When Zach went to pick his car up from the shop, his credit card wasn’t going through.

He swiped the plastic card numerous times before Anthony Oxtal, the store’s service manager, told him they’d figure something out.

“I let him take the car for the weekend and told him we’d take care of it Monday.”

Zach took the car and drove it over the weekend. Then, on Monday morning, his mother Sherry Bowen phoned West Omaha Auto Service to pay her son’s bill.

When the manager answered her call, Sherry was greeted with a surprise.

Turns out that a couple in the lobby had overheard Zach having problems with his credit card. Feeling sympathetic for the young man, the couple later returned to the shop and left a note in the key-drop box:

“My husband was here Friday afternoon to pick up car and a young man and possibly his mother were here to pick up the young man’s car.”

“You let him take the car and told him to come back Monday to figure it out.”

“I’d like to donate to the bill. Here’s $200 for the repairs.”

When the manager gave Sherry the note, she didn’t know what to say.

“It was a big shock, ” she later explained. “I was definitely in tears.”

Later, when Zach heard the news, he was completely blown away.

In an interview with 3News Now, Zach addressed the anonymous couple, saying:

“You guys are a prime example that there is still kindness in this world.”

“It really touched me, and now I’m eternally grateful.”

“I’m definitely going to frame this envelope.”

Zach’s mother Sherry is always extremely grateful for the couple’s good deed.

“I definitely want to pay it forward for someone else, so that it keeps going,” she said.

In a society focused on greed and indulgence, it’s rare to see such selfless giving. People want to have everything for themselves and often refuse to share.

As Zach noted, this story is a great reminder that— despite what the media leads us to believe— there is, indeed, still kindness in the world.
