Delivery workers have been working nonstop ever since shelter in place orders have been put into place for many states. While many people are able to stay safe in their homes, delivery workers have been outside more than ever. Their work days are not easy as Amazon is having a gigantic surge in orders.
While Amazon and their employees might be at an all-time high in being busy, that did not stop one delivery driver from stopping to pray for one small customer.
Raquel and Derek Pearson have been using delivery services as their life-line during the pandemic to keep their 8-month-old son, Lucas, safe. Lucas suffers from an aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA), a congenital vascular anomaly and this also causes him to have difficulty eating. This heart condition has made Lucas high-risk during Covid-19.
To keep Lucas safe Derek and Raquel have been ordering all their needs from online delivery services instead of leaving.
“He needs special thickeners to be able to eat, otherwise he aspirates his milk, so we really depend on getting all of these supplies online, so we don’t have to go out to the store and bring a virus home…We just want to minimize exposure to coronavirus” Raquel Pearson explained to KTVB.
The Pearson family made sure to let their delivery workers know how their sacrifice was helping save the life of their adorable son by a sign on their door.
Raquel and Derek were waiting on a package of important feeding supplies that Lucas needs to help him eat. Raquel and Derek have a Ring doorbell camera installed on their porch. When Raquel received her notification that someone was on their porch, she started to watch the feed.
What Raquel saw would stop her in her tracks, the delivery driver was praying on their porch.
Monica Salinas is a stranger to the Pearson family, but has delivered packages to their house before. She has seen the note left on the door by the family and knew she could not just walk away without giving a prayer to Lucas. It took a moment for Raquel to understand why the Amazon driver was paused on her porch.
Once Monica blessed herself with the sign of the cross, Raquel knew she was praying.
“There was a note and it said their baby’s food was essential, and every time I see that note, it just touches my heart…I just stopped to do what my heart told me to do, to say a prayer for the baby and for the parents, because that’s got to be very painful for all of them to see their baby hurt and struggle. I just prayed that they can make it through another day, one day at a time,” Monica Salinas told KVTB.
Raquel and Derek have created a Facebook page called “Strong Like Lucas” to keep their family and friends updated. They posted their Ring video of Monica praying to let the world know,
“There’s a lot going on in the world right now, but we believe in the goodness of humanity. This is the moment we captured Monica, our Amazon driver, praying for our sweet boy. This video is a good reminder that although it may feel lonely, we are all in this together and we are never alone.”
Once the video was posted, Monica Salinas was quickly identified as the Amazon employee. Monica’s heart was full that her simple prayer touched so many. Derek Pearson wants Monica to know how much her prayer meant to his family.
Derek and Raquel could not believe a stranger took the time out of her day to pray for their baby and appreciated the simple but powerful gesture.
