Sometimes you never meet your neighbors and other times they turn out to be some of your closest friends. These neighbors from Florida didn’t know just how close they were about to become when one of them had a life threatening emergency.
Billy Bass knocked on his Karen Gonzalez’s door because he knew he needed help. He wasn’t able to breath. Karen and Billy had been neighbors for over 12 years so they knew each other well, and since Billy lived alone, he knew exactly where to go when he was in trouble.
Karen’s door camera caught the whole interaction on video. Billy runs up to the door and knocks loudly and repeatedly pushes the doorbell. No one seems to be coming at first and we can hear him wheezing. Luckily the door opens and Karen immediately senses something is wrong.
She wastes no time when she realizes her friend is choking. “What’s wrong Billy, you’re choking?” and she immediately turns him around and begins the Heimlich maneuver to remove the object lodged in his throat. Someone else makes their way to the porch and she yells for them to get water and to call 911.
After one thrust of the CPR maneuver, the food is dislodged and Billy can breath again.
He insists that there is no need to call 911 because he can breath and feels fine. Karen tries to push, but he seems sure and the group on the porch takes his word for it. “You saved my life.” he tells Karen. All Karen can do in return is give Billy a hug and sigh of relief that he’s okay.
Billy explains he was eating dinner alone when he started choking. He tried to remove the food himself before he rushed over, but was unsuccessful. Karen was shocked that he made it all the way over to her house without anything happening before she reached the door. “Don’t eat anymore by yourself.” Karen yells at him to end the clip.
Doorbell cams have become increasingly popular after stories like this have been shared. Not only are their heartwarming and life saving events being captured on film that never were before, the cameras have also been catching theives and burglars trying to break into people’s homes. Theres a new sense of safety with these around, and it turns out they can even safe lives.
