April 27th, 2019

If you’re a fan of reality talent shows like American Idol, The Voice, or X Factor, you know that there are some performances that can just move you to tears. Whether it’s an emotional backstory or a voice so unique that it gives you goosebumps, it’s one of the best things about watching the show.

There have been three performances on X Factor UK, in particular, that have made such an impact on the judges, that they couldn’t keep it together.

It was the auditions of Josh Daniel, Lucy Spraggen, and Christian Burrows that will forever be etched in the memory of the X Factor UK judges. Let’s take a look back at them to remember why we’ll remember these auditions for a very long time.

First up…Josh Daniel.

It was during the season 12 auditions that 21-year-old Josh Daniel stepped onto the X Factor UK stage. He explained to Simon that he would be performing the song “Jealous” by Labrinth. The difference was, however, that he would be interpreting the lyrics and story a very different way.

Josh told Simon that he had lost his best friend a couple of years ago. He would be singing the lyrics as if he was jealous of his friend for being in heaven, happy without him.

Simon had just lost his mother, so the audition and the performance were particularly deep and touching for him.

“That was the most captivated I’ve been in all the auditions so far,” judge Cheryl said as she gets out of her seat to hug him.

The video of this amazing audition can be found below. But first, let’s take a look back at the second most moving audition – Lucy Spraggan.

Lucy Spraggan stole everyone’s hearts with her incredibly moving audition.

When the judges asked Lucy Spraggan to sing an original song, they had no idea what they were in for. She warned them that the song was sad, but no one had any idea just how emotional this performance would be.

“She revealed that she was inspired by an elderly couple walking down the street when ‘the lady collapsed in the street and was unconscious. And the look on the husband’s face was like he’d never lost her before and he’d just lost her then. It was horrible and it inspired me to write a song — after I got them into an ambulance,'” says Good Things Guy.

The tears and the standing ovation at the end of Lucy’s audition made it clear that she had captivated thousands of hearts that night.

“When the skies are looking bad my dear
And your heart’s lost all its hope
After dawn there will be sunshine
And all the dust will go
The skies will clear my darling
I’ll wake up with the one I love the most
And in the morning, I’ll make you up
Some tea and toast,” read the lyrics.

The powerful auditions and performances don’t end there (the video of all three is below), another moment that the judges will never forget was when Christian Burrows took the stage.

Simon asked Christian Burrows to sing an original song after hearing he was inspired by Ed Sheeran – he didn’t expect to end up sobbing.

Christian said he had a song about his late brother that he held very near and dear to his heart. In fact, only his mom had heard it before that very moment. His brother had died as a baby when Christian was just 2-years old. The lyrics were about the life that he and his brother could have had.

Of course, once the young man started singing such powerful and heartful lyrics, there wasn’t a dry eye in the entire room or in any living room of people watching the show.

“When I sang the song I did feel like he was there with me. I’m not the biggest spiritual person you will ever meet but I did get a feeling like he was there,” Christian said afterward.
