It’s hard to imagine walking outside, only to see that your car has been stolen. Talk about a bad day that would be! One woman from Portland, Oregon knows how frustrating it is, as her vehicle was being stolen constantly.

Luckily, she came up with a brilliant way to help convince thieves to return her car – and it has the internet howling.

Reddit user “mfiasco” was the owner of a 1995 Honda Civic. There was a big issue with the vehicle – it was constantly being burglarized and stolen by thieves in the area. In fact, the situation came up so often that she wasn’t even surprised whenever it happened.

In an interview with Tech Insider, the woman explained that she made sure to not leave valuables inside. She also said:

“…as long as it isn’t impounded, I just shake my fist at the sky and then go about my day.”

Mfiasco knew she couldn’t stop the problem by simply locking her car. So, she needed a different solution so she could at least avoid having to pay expensive impound fees.

She decided to leave a comical note in her car’s glovebox that was addressed to thieves.

The letter kindly assured the person they weren’t going to get into trouble. However, the car owner had simple requests of where to leave the vehicle after they were done, and she even gave suggestions of what they could steal from her trunk!

It’s a hilariously “snarky” letter that you can read below.

“Hello! If you’re reading this, you are probably stealing my car. I’m a nice person and likely would have given you a ride, but obviously we’re past that.

I would love to afford a car that doesn’t get stolen and burglarized all the time, but I’m broke and this is what I’m stuck with. So, you got me. Again.

You’re not going to get into trouble for stealing my car. As long as you don’t f*@k around and kill a pedestrian, you’ll just leave this somewhere and go about your business. Nobody investigates this tomfoolery.”

She had a little favor to ask. The viral letter continues:

“One quick favor: please do not leave my car somewhere it will get towed. If I have to deal with one more f*@king impound lot holding my stolen shi**y Honda for ransom, I am going to lose my mind. And my car, because I can’t afford to keep bailing it out of car jail. If I had any money I would just go buy a go@da*#d car that wasn’t constantly getting stolen in the first place.”

“Please just leave my old piece of sh*t car in a neighborhood or something. There’s a note in this envelope; just stick it on the dash or under the wiper. A passerby will see it eventually and call me and then I can come get my car. No cops, no questions asked; I’m not even mad at you.”

“It’s win-win: I don’t have to deal with police reports, insurance claims, and tow trucks, and you don’t have to feel like a jerk for ruining the month of a nice person.”

“There are countless safe places to leave this thing. Drive the car, take my first aid kit and emergency supplies in the trunk (my stereo is worthless) and just leave this motherf@*ker in front of someone’s house when you’re done with it.

Thank you. Enjoy your ride.

PS if you don’t mind committing another misdemeanor tonight, feel free to go throw a brick through the window of … Towing in Vancouver. They are literally the f*@king worst. Thanks. Have a good night.”

It’s easy to see why internet users were cracking up over the note. But did it work?

According to mfiasco, it did! She wrote on reddit:

“I left a snarky note in the glovebox of my Honda the last time it was stolen. Just recovered the car from the most recent theft. They read my letter and I think it worked; they ditched it in front of a house this time (YAY).”

No one wants to have their car stolen. But in this case, she at least figured out how to make lemonade out of lemons.

We hope her letter had you chuckling too!
