At times, what seems to be a negative encounter at first can unexpectedly turn into something positive and inspiring.
Niya Sumter, a single mom from Atlanta County, Mississippi, thought she was going to have a bad day for sure after a Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper gave her three tickets as she drove to her son’s doctor’s appointment. Getting pulled over for traffic violations is definitely a hassle she did not want to handle at that moment, and yet fate has other plans and she crossed paths with Trooper Bradley Sanders.

Just when she thought everything was not going to be better, the trooper said something she absolutely did not expect. She shared the incredible story on Facebook.
“Can I say how good God is?” Niya Sumter wrote in her post. She then proceeded on how she got signaled to pull over, and the man saying something kind and unexpected.”After giving me my tickets, he said, ‘Follow me. Let’s go buy your baby a car seat,'” Sumter shared.
Sumter was pleasantly surprised at the man’s kindness. At that time, her son, Kaemon, was “in a big boy seat” and was trying to get out of it as Sumter was talking to Sanders. The trooper saw this and thought of buying a proper car seat for the child.
In an interview with WAPT, Sanders shared what made him decide to do such a good deed.
“He was buckled in, but he wasn’t in the proper car seat and he was able to freely move around,” the kind man said.
Sanders further shared that after going back to his cruiser to take note of the citations, he got a call from his wife and that call led him to do what he felt was in his heart. He then asked Sumter to follow him to Walmart.
“She was very grateful. She was saying, ‘Thank you,’ and she understood that the traffic stop was legitimate. She had no issue with what was going on. She did state she was trying to do the best she could with her son being in the car seat that he was in,” Sanders recalled.
Out of so much joy and gratefulness, Sumter posted the amazing encounter and act of kindness that Sanders did for her son. She took a photo of her son riding a grocery cart and behind him was the car seat Sanders bought. It was such an incredible act that will surely stay in Sumter’s heart forever.
When Sanders saw what the child needed, his kind heart did not hesitate to do what he thought was best. He listened to it and because of this selfless act, one child has gained more safety while on the road and a mom is now feeling more secure as she drives around with her little one.
We definitely need more people like Sanders. He believes there are a lot like him out there.
“Overwhelmingly, there are great cops out there. Are there a few bad apples out there? I am sure. But most of us got into this profession to help people, as I did myself,” Sanders said. “I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. I wanted to help.”
