It’s terrifying enough to be in a car accident, but even more so if you’re pregnant.
This is the ordeal a mother, who only introduced herself as Kali, had to go through when she got into a bad car accident on Lincoln Road in Idaho Falls. The circumstances that caused the incident were not specified but it was enough to reduce her car into a heap of junk metal.
Miraculously, Kali emerged from the debris.
She was five months pregnant at the time and we can only imagine how terrified she was for her baby.
With a broken leg and arm, she tried to wave down the passing drivers and ask them to stop and help her. It made the situation much worse when motorists passed by her one after another. They swerved around her car but did nothing more than just stare in shock.
For Kali, the moment felt like an eternity.
She tried to endure the pain both physically and emotionally as people continued to drive by.
Finally, when hope seemed bleak, a man pulled over. He immediately asked Kali if she needed help. Not only did she need it, she was “starving for help”. The man introduced himself as Brewster and agreed to call 911 for her.
Another man approached both of them and asked if they needed help. The distressed and terrified mother only asked him to wait by her side just until the ambulance arrived. The man agreed. She didn’t catch his name, but the only clue he left her was that he just “lived across the street”.
The ambulance arrived shortly thereafter, finally ending Kali’s ordeal.
The whole situation could’ve gone worse, if not for the two men who didn’t hesitate to offer assistance when others didn’t. And as much as Kali wanted to thank these gentlemen, she never had the chance to get their information.
The expectant mother knew that the two of them deserved all the recognition and praise so she had to be creative in extending her gratitude.
She emailed a local news company. The said news outlet has a segment that spreads feel-good bits and it seemed like a perfect avenue to reach out to the strangers who helped her.
East Idaho News was more than willing to track the men, especially when they heard about Kali’s story.
Carrying a bag of chocolates and gift cards as tokens, the news team located Brewster. He was working at Classic Auto Collision Center, a local establishment near the accident site.
He shared that he saw a pile-up of cars as he was driving down the road. When it slowly cleared up, he saw that the cars were driving around a totaled car. When asked why he stopped when other cars didn’t, his answer was simple yet poignant.
“Someone’s hurt, you got to stop.” He told East Idaho News.
Brewster and the other man showed that even if it seems like no one’s willing to help, there are people who have this urge to be of service and are more than willing to look after the people who need it the most.
