This extended period of uncertainty and fear we’ve been going through over the last couple of months has definitely taken a toll on everyone’s lives. We don’t seem to enjoy anything anymore, we’re slowly sinking in sadness and loneliness, and we just can’t find a reason to smile anymore.

But it doesn’t have to be like this. There are still people who love us out there and they’re ready to prove it when the time comes, reminding us that we are not alone in this and that we will all go through this hard time together.

Like her relatives did for “Nanay” Nene of Jacksonville, Florida, a few days ago.

The woman is a mother of seven, and has 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She used to live with her husband, but after his passing away last Christmas Eve, she lives alone. And, although her children and grandchildren have tried to be as close to her and as supportive as possible, when the pandemic broke out she was forced to stay away from everyone given her old age.

But Nanay just turned 100 in late May and her relatives didn’t want to let her celebrate it alone- or not at all for that matter.

So, one of her nieces decided to organize a special birthday party for her that Nanay would never forget!

The plan was simple: 100 roses for 100 years. The woman rallied roses and relatives, she distributed the flowers to various family members and they all were ready for the unique celebration.

The 100-year old woman was taken to her porch by her grandson, Edward Nostrates, and saw her loved ones leave roses one by one next to her wheelchair. It sure was a heartwarming moment for the elderly grandma.

“You couldn’t really see her face just because of the face mask, it’s just covering her whole face,” said Nostrates, according to WTLV. “But she was tearing up.”

Nostrates, who has been married into the family, later posted some photos from the special day on Facebook. In these photos, the elderly woman looks really happy and thankful for her relatives who took the time to come all the way to her house and wish her a happy birthday.

The story was featured on WTLV and Nostrates didn’t fail to thank the journalist who covered his story, Jeannie Blaylock.

“Thank you Jeannie for sharing my Nanay Nena’s story, you made her 100th birthday extra special,” Nostrates commented on her post. “The whole family would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Nostrates’ post on Facebook got hundreds of reactions and dozens of comments from relatives and friends, who wanted to wish happy birthday to the woman and praised her family for their special gift to her.

“Happy birthday Nanay Nena! May God continuously bless her 🙏.. Looks yummy cake,” someone wrote, while someone else commented: “Wow!! What a great gesture for Nanay’s 100th, Edward!”

The centenarian really enjoyed her birthday in the most unexpected way and her relatives got the chance to show her their love through this kind gesture. We hope when this is over that they get to properly celebrate all together!
