We never know what life has in store for us. Everyone wants to be happy but happiness means different things to different people. It’s important to be able to find happiness in little things and not lose ourselves chasing something our whole lives and forgetting to enjoy what we have right here and now.

For a parent, there can be no greater happiness than to watch their kids grow up and become individuals, to see them start a family of their own, and lead a happy life. Unfortunately, life can separate parents and their children and rob them of all the happy moments they would otherwise spend together.

After his divorce, Jose Lopez was left homeless and separated from his daughters who he thought would never see again

Things really went wrong for Jose Lopez, a New Jersey man, who, following his divorce, got separated from his two daughters and was left homeless. He would not see them in decades and we can only imagine how difficult it was for him, knowing he could not be a part of their lives.

To make matters worse, Jose suffered several strokes which took a toll on his health. Despite this, he would not give up looking for his daughters.

Jose’s failing health persuaded him that he couldn’t wait anymore; he wanted to reunite with his daughters after two decades no matter what. The problem was, he had no money. Eventually, he had saved just enough money to buy a train ticket and travel from Florida to New Jersey.

He hoped to get to Bradley Beach where he knew his daughters lived but he probably wouldn’t have made it if it hadn’t been for a New Jersey transit police officer to help him out.

Officer Sean Pfeifer spotted a bewildered Jose at the train station, realizing that he needed help.

“Mr. Lopez was intent on finding his family,” said Sean. “And I wanted to make sure I was there to help him with doing that.”

Sean reached out to other people, looking for their help. The officer also helped Jose clean up before meeting his two daughters. Years of separation and of life on the street have affected Jose both physically and emotionally, so Sean stepped in to make his dream come true and organized Jose’s reunion with his two girls.

When Sean contacted her, Jose’s daughter Angela thought it was a scam

“I was actually in a parking lot,” said Angela Viviani, one of Jose’s daughters. “And I checked my voicemail, and I was like, ‘Is this a scam or something?’”

When the big moment finally arrived, neither Jose nor his daughters could hide their emotions after such a long separation.

“I think I’m in heaven,” Jose said. “I got my two best girls, I got a good friend…”

Sean was still not done helping Jose, however. The officer filmed their reunion, including a touching moment when Jose was introduced to his granddaughters!
