For one couple, it seemed as though they were destined to be together. Bob and Corinne grew up in Minnesota only three miles apart. Her brother Harold and Bob were best friends. Since the two of them hung around so much, Corinne had the chance to get to know Bob quite well.

As fate would have it, Bob and Corinne fell in love as adults and went on to live an incredibly fulfilled life. Together, they lived on Norseland Eastview Farm in Minnesota where they milked cows, worked the fields, and raised seven children.

These two were meant for each other.

This was a hardworking and devoted couple. Even on their wedding day in 1951, Bob spent the majority of it in the fields on the family farm working alongside his brother. But Corinne didn’t mind. She was just happy she’d met and married the love of her life.

They shared a marriage filled with love, laughter, and support.

For 68 years, Bob and Corinne Johnson lived on the farm. In addition to their seven children, they were blessed with 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. As the brood grew so did the intense love these two had for one another.

Bob was always a gentleman.

Although he was a rough and tough farmer, Bob had a gentle side, especially when it came to his wife Corinne. He had a practice of letting her go first in just about everything. That meant waiting to fill his plate at the buffet line until she got everything she wanted. He also opened doors, making sure she entered before him.

Waiting for his wife to die first made perfect sense to the family.

After 68 years together, Corinne died from congestive heart failure on November 24, 2019. Unable to cope without her, Bob followed just 33 hours later, succumbing to cancer. In response to Bob allowing Corinne to go first, Brent, one of the couple’s sons, said, “So, it was only fitting that in the end, he waited for Mother to go first and then he passed away.”

Although Bob had cancer, some say he died of a broken heart.

Another son, Bruce, had this to say, “I sort of thought he looked like he could go on for weeks. As soon as Mom died, he went downhill and died in a day. It’s hard to imagine it’s a coincidence.” There’s a good chance it wasn’t coincidental. They spent so much time as a couple, Bob felt lost without his precious wife by his side.

There’s a medical explanation as to what happened.

According to experts, whether the result of a medical or spiritual problem, many couples die from a condition called “takotsubo cardiomyopathy” or “stress cardiomyopathy.” In simple terms, this means they died from a broken heart.

This condition has very specific symptoms, including shortness of breath, chest pain, and even fainting. The family agrees that Bob and Corinne loved each other so much that when she passed, his heart broke.

The family explained that their Mom and Dad were homebodies. While they went out, they preferred to spend their time together on the farm. With such a large extended family, their legacy will live on. Through their love, they’ve taught others what a healthy marriage is all about. What a beautiful love story.
