“Love conquers all.” It’s a phrase we’ve all heard before and maybe it sounds corny or cliché, but it’s that way for a reason — because it’s true. When powerful enough, love really can help you overcome just about anything.

Kevin Taylor was a man who broke his leg over a decade ago. When that happened, he contracted a nerve disorder called reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome, or RSD.

After contracting RSD, he was in the hospital at least once a month for 10 years. The doctors told him it was one of the worst cases they’d ever seen and recommended that he amputate his leg. So he did.

Now, Kevin was bound to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

“The most remarkable thing about Kevin, with all that he’s dealt with — he never complains,” his friend told KJTV Fox 34 News in Lubbock, Texas.

“The way I look at it is it could always be worse,” Kevin said.

Around this same time, he fell in love at first sight with a woman named Kim. It was in that moment that his entire life would change forever and Kim would go on to become his beloved fiance.

“Walked in, he turned and had grin from ear-to-ear. It was an instant connection,” Kim said.

It didn’t matter whether or not Kevin was bound to a wheelchair. The two fell in love regardless because their connection was far beyond their physical bodies.

“Him being in a wheelchair never phased her one bit,” Kevin’s friend said.

“I don’t see the wheelchair at all. I never have. It didn’t bother me because it’s the person inside, not who they are physically. His heart makes up for any lack of limb that he has,” Kim said.

“He’s the most amazing human being I’ve ever met in my entire life,” the bride-to-be continued.

But what Kim didn’t know was that while they were planning their wedding, Kevin was going behind her back and attending physical therapy sessions.

Why?

Kevin began going to physical therapy in order to learn how to walk. He wanted to surprise Kim by standing at their wedding when everyone is told to stand. She won’t expect him to, but then he will also get up along with everyone else for the very first time.

“I want to stand up. My groomsman is going to take my wheelchair from me and I’m going to walk to her… And I’m going to make it the best day of her life,” Kevin said.

In this story, Kim was quite literally the medicine Kevin needed to heal. If she hadn’t walked into his life, who knows if he would have found the strength to walk.

But he did it for her. And this just proves that saying we stated earlier… Love really does conquer all.

Not only did Kim’s presence in his life literally change him and his body, but this story also teaches us to stay positive and have faith.

Kevin had been positive during this entire traumatic experience, even before Kim entered his life. That mindset is absolutely crucial to have if you need to get by!

And it’s that positive attitude that made him believe that walking was possible… And he was right, it was.

The story is so beautiful, it went viral with over 13 million views. Pretty easy to see why!
