More than likely, you’ve heard about flash mobs. You might’ve even been lucky enough to witness one in person. But for those of you who don’t know what they are, these so-called “mobs” consist of people who gather at a designated location to sing or dance, or both.

Bill Wasik, the senior editor of Harper’s Magazine, created flash mobs back in 2003. The target was a retail store. But because someone shared the secret, it was a major fail. Today, some flash mobs are average while some are out of this world.

The best targets

Typically, flash mob organizers look for places with a lot of open space. They also focus on areas where a large number of people congregate. That’s why shopping malls, retail stores, bus stops, squares, train stations, and airport terminals make ideal targets.

Glasgow Scotland

One particular flash mob has received a lot of attention. For one thing, the group Impromptune does an amazing job. But also, their performances are spectacular. That includes one that took place at Prestwick Airport. They gave one woman the most fantastic surprise of her life.

Beyond viral

All of this group’s flash mobs are successful. Once the one in Scotland was uploaded to social media, it quickly reached almost 1.5 million views. It was so good that travelers stood there watching. One poster stated, “Not one person was worried about getting on their plane in time…love it.”

Getting it started

It started when the “ticket counter agent” sang the first line of an ABBA song, which was quickly followed with other “passengers” and a “baggage handler” joining in. Immediately, you can tell these are some very talented singers.

A memorable send-off

Come to find out, the woman wearing the white slacks and sweater was the one traveling. Someone asked Impromptune if they would do a flash mob as a sendoff. Once everyone begins to sing, she turns to look around but it hasn’t hit her that this is all for her.

They’re everywhere

Suddenly, people started coming from every direction. They all moved in without skipping a beat of the song. The only thing the woman could do is watch and listen. It takes her a few minutes but then she realizes they doing this for her. That’s when she puts her face in her hands.

Others enjoyed it too

Real passengers began to line the walkways, both upstairs and downstairs, so they could watch as well. Everywhere you look, you can see people whipping out their cell phones to capture the amazing event on video.

The mob continues to grow

As the ABBA song continues, so does the size of the flash mob. Before long, there are so many people that everyone is pretty much stuck in place. But that’s okay, it was all for a good cause.

Dancing, too?

While the group Impromptune didn’t have anything choreographed, they couldn’t resist doing a few dance steps here and there. After all, this was ABBA. How can anyone just stand around without dancing?

A day to remember

There’s no way this woman will ever forget this special day. The people who had the chance to watch the flash mob won’t forget it either. At the end of the video, the woman who was targeted is seen hugging a man. We don’t know if that’s her boyfriend, husband, or perhaps just a close friend but we’re pretty sure he had something to do with this.
