A family in California is forever thankful to a jogger who saved their home and pets from a fire.
Paul Murphy had his headset on and was jogging in Scotts Valley, California when he noticed something from one of the houses.
He saw smoke rising from a home.
He shifted and ran towards the house, and it seemed that the people inside didn’t know what was happening.
He rang the doorbell and waited.
Unfortunately, only a pre-recorded message answered Paul.
This means no one was inside the house, and Paul was getting restless as he saw the smoke getting thicker.
“I saw him running back and forth so, I answered it,” Courtney Polito said when she saw Murphy in front of her house.
Then, Paul heard a woman’s voice say ‘Hi,’ so he ran to the ring camera and told Courtney that her house was on fire.
That’s when Courtney heard the smoke alarm and saw that smoke was coming out of her house.
The house wasn’t empty, though.
Courtney and her husband were not home at that time. So, imagine the fear that they felt when they realized that their home was on fire and their beloved pets were trapped inside.
The homeowner had to act fast if she wanted her home and pets saved.
Courtney immediately gave her home security password to Paul and asked him to save her pets.
He rose to the occasion.
Inside her burning house were her beloved dachshunds, a rabbit, and a cat. Four animals in total, none belonging to this jogger.
Without hesitation, Paul entered the house.
Paul entered a burning house, risking his life for a person he didn’t know and for the pets that were not his.
It was an act of courage, heroism, and selflessness. The homeowner could only watch what was happening and wait for help to come.
Soon, Paul came out of the house with a dog in his arms.
He wasn’t done yet.
Then he went back again, and soon, he managed to save all of the pets inside the home, and help finally arrived.
“The fire department said 10 more minutes and the house would have been gone,” said Courtney in her interview with Local12.
Because of Paul’s fast thinking and heroism, the fire was contained, and there was no other reported damage.
“I want to give him a hug,” Courtney said to Local12. “I’ll bring him to lunch. I’ll bring him dinner. I don’t know, I just want to thank him so much and let him know how thankful we are. My kids, my husband, we would be devastated if we lost our pets, let alone our home.”
Everyone works so hard so they can have the home of their dreams, to be able to build a family with their kids and pets.
Sadly, in an instant, a fire can destroy everything.
For Courtney and her family, Paul is a hero.
Without him and his kind heart, this family would have lost their home, their valuables, and the lives of their beautiful pets.
