The hits, “Stayin’ Alive” and “Night Fever” still vibrate in our heads to this day. In 1978, the group was able to take home the Grammy-Award for “Album of the Year” which, for some artist, is the zenith of their musical careers. The Bee Gee’s sound was one that gathered people together in beautiful ways like never before.

The band’s origin can be traced back to the late fifties in Australia. The members consisted of elder brother Barry Gibb along with his twin brothers Maurice and Robin Gibb. Unfortunately, Maurice passed away in 2003 due to cardiac arrest in 2003 and Robin of kidney failure in 2012.

The tribute highlighted the 40-year anniversary of the soundtrack to the classic 1977 film, Saturday Night Fever, which ascended the Bee Gees into a different musical stratosphere.

Keith Urban, a New Zealand-born country music star, was tasked with having to perform his own rendition of, “To Love Somebody”. This song was originally released by The Bee Gees in 1967 on their first debut album.

Shortly after Keith begins to usher in his lyrics, the camera pans over to Barry in the audience. He takes a moment to appreciate Keith’s voice and begins to sing along to the tune. He is clearly unable to hide his face full of emotion as the performance starts to ramp up.

Keith initially holds the audience in suspense with easy-going guitar strums, until things start to change slowly. Suddenly, Keith begins to rock out with heavy instrumentals from his band and the building explodes with energy. Everyone was encouraged to sing-along and jam to the energy of the music. Even Barry’s reaction showed how deeply moved he was by it all.

Keith was asked some questions about his thoughts related to the band and his performance. Urban applauded the band for their body of work and discography. Keith commented to Recording Academy Grammy Awards:

“The thing I’m amazed at is how they maintained such quality of songwriting through decades and so many stylistic changes in music through those periods. And the song craft level was always extraordinary.”
