For a lot of people, there’s nothing better than fishing. Whether doing a “catch and release” or taking food home for dinner, this is a relaxing way to spend time on the water. Adults who’ve fished their entire lives still feel the excitement of reeling in a catch.

It’s even better for children

Especially when it comes to a child who’s never caught a fish before, the thrill of getting that first one is beyond exciting. That’s proven in a story about a small boy who finally caught a fish for the first time.

Fishing in Canada

One young boy and his dad decided to go fishing. So, they headed out to Lake Champlain in Quebec, Canada. Although this child hoped he’d catch something, he wasn’t sure. When he did, his father captured it all on video.

Teaching him the ropes

In a video that’s only two and a half minutes long, the dad starts by showing his son the right way to cast. He goes through the entire process, preparing his son for what he anticipates will be his big day. Then it happens.

The bite

In the video, you see the boy gets a bite and it’s a big one. Remember, he’s small but he works hard to reel it in. At the same time, he can’t stop giggling. Then he tells his dad that the “creature is fighting him.” It’s super adorable.

He’s so excited

As he keeps reeling in the line, the boy states, “It’s the first day of my whole life.” That comment pretty much sums up how he feels. Soon, his father reminds him to keep the line tight. In response, his son makes a pouty look as if saying, “I know what I’m doing.”

He sees it

After reeling in the line for a little while, the fish finally comes into sight. But he still has to bring it all the way in. So, with all his might, he pulls the fish out of the water. To help, his dad catches it in their net.

Overcome with emotion

Although you expect this little boy to be excited, he actually becomes overwhelmed with emotion. He then says, “That was my first fish. That makes me cry.” Quickly, he transforms back into his happy self.

A picture is worth 1,000 words

There’s no way to describe just how this boy felt. But the photo of him posing with his first catch says it all. Since it’s slippery, he has a somewhat hard time holding onto it but he manages. After some more giggle, he gently tosses the fish back in the water.
