If you have siblings, then you probably remember epic fights between you and them when you were younger. Sometimes you wanted something they had and you didn’t, others they were jealous of something that was yours and asked your parents to get it for them too, the reasons were countless.
But everyone knows that the bond between siblings is unbreakable no matter how many times you fight over the years. In fact, experts agree that sibling relationships are very important in our lives.
“Siblings are not just second editions in relation to the parents, but have a profound importance in their own right. Relationships with siblings are ineradicably fixed in our psyches,” state psychotherapists Vivienne Lewin and Belinda Sharp in their book “Siblings In Development”.
According to research, the better relationship one has with their siblings the healthier they will be mentally in the future. More specifically, statistics indicate that “93 per cent of the men who were thriving at 65 had been close to a sibling in their early life”, while poor sibling relationships in early adulthood was associated with higher depression levels later in life.
Therefore, it seems it is really crucial for parents to encourage a healthy relationship between their children when they are younger, have them interact and spend time together creatively so that they develop a strong bond that will remain unbreakable in the future.
And, apparently, Abby and Daniel’s parents have succeeded in this.
Abby and Daniel Stout are brother and sister and they just adore each other. But a few years ago, they proved they would go above and beyond to make each other happy and this is their heartwarming story.
In 2016, on Abby’s 6th birthday, the girl was given a hamster as a present. She loved it and so did her older brother. Not only that, but he also told his parents that he’d like them to get a hamster for him as well.
Daniel’s parents said yes on condition that he’d help with household chores and they’d give him some extra money to save until he had the necessary amount to buy a hamster he so much wanted.
“He really went above and beyond,” said the children’s mom, Rachel Stout. “He was scrubbing the bathroom floor and even cleaning out the garage.”
Daniel’s sister saw how hard he worked to save the money and she had an idea. He would surprise him with a pet hamster!
So, when her mom asked how she wanted to spend the $55 she had gotten from birthday gift cards, the little girl said she wanted to use the money to buy a hamster for Daniel.
“I asked her what she wanted to do with her money and she says, ‘I want to surprise Daniel and buy him his hamster. He has been working soooo hard.’ I asked her numerous times of she was sure that’s what she wanted to do with her money and she never faltered,” Rachel explained.
So, when Daniel returned home after a sleepover, Abby and his new pet were waiting for him. After the initial shock, Daniel hugged his sister tight and started sobbing.
It is the most heartwarming sight to see these two young children hugging and crying tears of joy! Their love for each other is undeniable and special. We bet their parents are super proud of them!
