We love hearing stories of heroism. No matter how it happens, anyone who steps up to help the greater good or to save someone else’s life deserves to be hailed a hero and for their story to be shared. This heroic tale, however, is certainly something you don’t hear about every day.

A regular Walmart shopper in Peachtree City, Georgia stepped up to help police catch a thief in the parking lot. His ‘weapon’? A shopping cart.

Not only did this man stop the thief with a shopping cart – the ordeal was caught on surveillance camera. The shopper notices that there is some chaos and commotion going on and catches onto the fact that someone is trying to flee the police.

With concentration and focus on his face, the man shoves his cart-full of groceries toward the criminal and perfectly hits his path – knocking him down. He waited until the exact perfect moment to carry out his heroic move.

Once the man was thrown to the ground, the police were able to tackle and arrest the man for shoplifting.

Later in the video, it shows other Good Samaritans run over to help the mystery hero pick up all of the groceries that had been thrown about during the incident. The name of the man who pushed the shopping cart is unknown, but the Peachtree City police are very grateful for his actions that day.

“He was able to help us take him into custody without injury to anyone including the offender,” said Sgt Chris Hyatt with Peachtree City Police.

The entire ordeal started back in January of 2020 at the Peachtree City Home Depot store. Employees called the police when they noticed two men stealing some expensive, high-end tools.

When officers responded to the call, that’s when they noticed the suspect in the neighboring Walmart parking lot and the chase ensued.

When the cop spots the man, his bodycam captures him telling him to stop, however, he took off in a full-speed run instead. After being caught and handcuffed, the police were able to identify the man as Marcus Smith, 41, from Forsyth, Georgia. He was arrested and charged with felony shopping lifting and obstruction.

Police are grateful for the mystery man’s actions that day, however, they want to remind the public to stay out of danger and don’t do anything that makes them feel uncomfortable.

“Don’t do anything that you aren’t comfortable with or that would put you or others in harm’s way,” Hyatt said.

Shoplifting at big-box retailers is a big problem and costs businesses millions of dollars a year.

Commenters on YouTube shared their thoughts about the dramatic surveillance camera footage:

“INSTANT JUSTICE!” said one commenter.

“Great timing and very smart using the shopping cart to trip up that 41 year old POS. I love the way the Good Samaritan holds his arms up like he scored a touchdown. Take that POS to jail and keep him locked up,” said an opinionated viewer.

“Great job sir. I hope you recuperate your losses,” said another person concerned about his groceries.
