A lot of people don't believe in Santa. But in South Africa, Santa is very real.

When you were a young child, did you believe Santa Claus was a real person? Yes? No?

Well, in South Africa, Santa is very much real. But he’s not exactly who you think he is.

For one, he doesn’t live in the North Pole, he lives in South Africa. Two, he doesn’t drive sleigh with the help of twelve reindeers. He drives a car. And three, this South African Santa performs his act of kindness all year and not just on one night of the year.

Who is he?

His name is BI Phakhati. He is a motivational speaker, life coach, and filmmaker. And he is known in South Africa as a secret Santa.

No one knows what he looks like except for the people that he has helped in person. His acts of kindness in inspired by what he has learned from Bahamian evangelist and ordained minister Dr. Myles Munroe.

Dr. Munroe encourages his followers to live a life driven by purpose.

And this is what has driven BI Phakati to be kind and loving to South Africans. He has helped all these people selflessly.

Do you know why we say selflessly?

Because BI Phakhati is not his real name. No one knows his real name, except for his family and friends, of course. The public doesn’t know what he looks like because he has never shown his face on his social media accounts.

And it’s a good thing he keeps himself anonymous so he can continue to do good deeds and different acts of kindness all over the country.

That’s why when he approached this particular family, he was able to genuinely help them out because they didn’t realize who he was until later.

He first found out about this family when he chanced upon one of the sons carrying wood on the side of the road. BI asked what he needed the wood for and the boy said they didn’t have electricity. They needed the wood for heat.

That was BI’s first visit to their home.

And he asked them what they needed, which was gasoline for the generator. He bought them the gasoline, some grocery, and even gifted them with cash.

They thought that was the end of it.

A few days later, he came back and asked if he could take the boys shopping. At this point, the parents already knew who he was. They were grateful for the generous gift and the boys were so excited to go with him.

BI laughed when the boys already had a request before they could even leave for the store.

“Can I get a swimming pool and two soccer balls?” the boys requested.

Of course, when they got there, the boys were so excited and couldn’t decide which toys to get.

But you know what was sweet?

They didn’t forget their family and made sure that they were able to buy enough food for everyone.

When BI took the boys home, he was able to meet the entire family, including the patriarch of the house.
