Our men and women in the military miss out on a lot when they’re deployed overseas – from holidays to birthdays, and everything in between. There are sometimes even greater events that are missed. For one Army soldier, it was the birth of his daughters.

A Kansas couple, Skyler and Cydney Cooper, were excited to be welcoming two new babies into their family. They already had two sons, and Cydney was pregnant with a set of twin girls.

Skyler was deployed to Kuwait during his wife’s pregnancy.

Like many other service members, he stayed in touch with his family through Skype calls. Then one day in January, Skyer was given the news… His daughters, Kyla and Emma, would be arriving earlier than expected.

Cydney had gotten the flu, which is what led to their twin girls’ premature birth (at 33 weeks). Unfortunately, Skyler wasn’t able to witness the beautiful event, nor be there to hold his wife’s hand throughout it all. So, he began working on a plan…

After 12 days of the infants being in the NICU, Cydney got the surprise of a lifetime. It was captured on film too.

In the video, mom Cydney is sitting in a chair holding one of their precious newborns. She’s in the middle of texting her soldier husband, unaware that he’s actually sneaking in the door.

Skyler can be seen walking into the room with an armful of balloons and flowers for his wife. The real gift, of course, is that he’s home!

Cydney looks up and is immediately shocked to see her husband. Although she had no clue he’d flown back to Kansas, others were in on the heartwarming surprise.

She told 13 NEWS:

“[The] nurses and his mom are actually who orchestrated the whole surprise. I was texting him…and they had known the entire time he was out in the waiting area.”

Cydney gets emotional seeing the love of her life. She starts to cry and buries her face in her hand.

The mom later wrote on Facebook:

“1 year of crazy, 1000s of miles, 1 solo pregnancy and delivery, 48392 Skype calls, some superheros, a few plane rides, 12 NICU days, tons of help from family and friends, and many tears later…. A soldier came home ❤🇺🇸💙(I promise I hugged him–that is just me realizing everything is finally okay ❤)”

It’s a touching scene as Skyler holds onto his wife and brand new daughter.

After watching the video, one viewer commented:

“The beautiful moments we all need to feel in our hearts❤”

However, that wasn’t the only tear-jerking surprise captured on film…

The soldier-dad also planned to surprise their young sons at home. In the video, one of his boys heads out the front door to pick up a couple of toys. That’s when Skyler comes out from the side, and lovingly picks him up!

The surprises keep going.

Skyler and his son head indoors where his other child is. It’s another unforgettable moment as he scoops him up too.

Another person commented:

“That’s what we call a real dad n a real husband. Clearly, he loves his family and they love him back.”

Cydney decided to share all of the amazing surprise videos online, which went viral. Even the family dog was excited to have Daddy home!

Skyler told 13 NEWS:

“After this year, I just can’t wait to have my entire family under one roof.”
