12-Year-Old Doesn’t Tell Mom About His Good Deed But Then Video Surfaces Online
12-year-old Monte was sneaking behind his mom's back - but she couldn't be prouder of his actions.

When you’re a parent, you can only hope that your children listen to the important lessons that you teach them. After all, they go out in the world on their own, and you’re not going to always be by their side to remind them.

One mom from Western Michigan raised a stand-up son who loves helping people. Interestingly though, she didn’t know about one of his good deeds until she was cruising through social media.

So, what did he do? The boy was caught lending a hand to his community.

He went viral on Facebook for taking it upon himself to fill the massive potholes that plagued his hometown. What an amazing kid, he deserves to be seen for this!

Monte Scott was just a 12-year-old kid, who was on a mission to fill the potholes in his community

Monte, the now 13-year-old, was upset at the potholes in his hometown Muskegon Heights, Michigan, after his mother hit one, flattening her tire and wrecking her axel. Instead of ignoring it, he decided to do something about the problem, head-on.

His mother, Trinell Scott, had no idea what her son was up to when he decided to start taking dirt from their backyard and filling potholes. She probably thought he was out playing like most kids, but not Monte, he was making a huge difference!

“He saw a need, and he felt like he could meet that need,” Trinell told CBS News.

When one of his neighbors saw him filling the potholes, she uploaded a video to Facebook and it took off from there.




The hard-working young man didn’t tell anyone what he was doing, not even his mother. So you can imagine her surprise when a video of him doing the incredible deed popped up on her Facebook feed. In the video, you can see Monte with a trashcan full of dirt, filling the potholes and smoothing them over.

He was furious that a pothole had wrecked his mom’s car, so he used that anger to get work and do something good for his community. When asked why it bothered him so much, he told, Phil Hartman with CBS News:

“Because I didn’t want to see nobody else messing up their car like my mom did.”

Monte’s mother explained to CBS News, that this is just in the big-hearted kid’s nature

Helping people isn’t irregular for Monte, his mom told Phil Hartman, saying:

“He’s just a kid that likes to help people. If it’s the fall, he’s raking leaves, summer/spring, he’s cutting grass, winter he’s blowing snow.” When Monte was asked if gets paid for his actions he said: “No. I tell myself I have a responsibility, doing something to help the community out.”

Monte and his mother, Trinell, were honored by the Mayor of Muskegon Heights, Kimberly Simms, for his upstanding actions.

Nowadays, most kids are out chasing clout on social media, seeing a pre-teenager like this is incredibly heartwarming. The fact that Monte didn’t tell anyone and just did it is inspiring as well. This honorable kid is simply filling the potholes in his neighborhood, one at a time. No wonder his mom and community are so proud!
