Having children is a blessing, but doing daily activities with them like going to the supermarket can turn into a nightmare from one second to the other.

While doing stuff with your children is great for both of you, it strengthens the bond between you and them, and it helps you create memories together, children- and especially toddlers- can be unpredictable, so “bye-bye fun time”!

If, on top on everything, you decide to take two kids on a shopping trip with you without your partner being with you, then you’re probably in for some trouble sooner or later!

Kids can get bored or tired easily, they will need to eat at some point and get fussy, they will be restless, start complaining, and your fun time together can soon turn into a negative experience.

Nobody wants that for themselves or their children. But sometimes there is no other option. And, when such a moment arrives, unfortunately, most people who happen to be around will rush to judge you instead of helping you.

Luckily, this was not the case for a young mother from Pearland, Texas.

Rebecca Paterson is a mother of two- a toddler and a 2-month-old at the time of the event. On that day, she decided to take her two children out shopping for the first time, and she was convinced it would all be fine.

However, things didn’t go as smoothly as she expected.

Soon after she had selected some products and put them in her shopping cart, both her children had a meltdown. Right, both of them. At the same time.

That’s when it hit her. “So long, shopping trip,” she must have thought. As her children were obviously in distress, and people around her started looking at the three of them ready to judge the mother’s choices and actions, she knew it was time to leave.

So, she started putting things back on the shelves, convinced that their supermarket visit was over.

But that’s when she saw her.

It was another Pearland mom, Tiffany Jones-Guillory, who knew all too well what it feels like to be alone with two kids in a store, having to calm them down and continue your shopping.

The woman approached them and offered to help.

“I said ‘Go ahead and do your grocery shopping,'” Guillory recalled, “‘and I’ll just hold Jacob and I’ll talk to him.'”

So, she picked the toddler up in her arms and started talking to him with a calming, soothing voice until he was not crying anymore.

The two women and the children walked around the store for 45 minutes while Rebecca was doing her shopping. When she was checking out, she took a picture of her “angel”, as she called Guillory, and posted it on a local parenting group.

Rebecca’s post drew lots of positive attention, and everyone commented on how kind it was on Guillory’s part to help a fellow mama, but the woman insists she just did what she ought to have done to help another woman. After all, she’d been in Rebecca’s position before.

As Rebecca says, “a little kindness and understanding goes a long way”, and a helping hand was exactly what this mother needed at that moment of despair.
