What would you do if you were traveling first class and, during the flight, met an elderly person who had always dreamed of traveling first class? Would you exchange seats? Even if her original seat was right next to the economy class toilets?

Well, Jack did. The young man was traveling from New York first class with his family and he happened to meet 88-year old Violet on board. They seemed to get along really well and she even shared that her dream had always been to travel first class. Violet, a retired nurse from London, has been flying back and forth to New York every so often to visit her daughter and, in fact, this was her first trip after a knee replacement.

Jack probably was touched by the old lady’s words and he decided to give her his seat after take-off. So Violet got to enjoy all the privileges that first-class passengers have, while Jack spent the whole flight in economy class without asking for anything at all.

How do we know all these details? Virgin Atlantic flight attendant Leah Amy of Manchester, UK, was a cabin crew member on board of the flight in question. She was so moved by the young man’s gesture that she had to share the inspiring story on social media.

“Let me tell you about my two favourite passengers EVER!” she wrote in her Facebook post.

Violet also asked Leah to take a picture of her in the first-class section, because otherwise, her daughter wouldn’t believe her. So the flight attendant did and has already sent the elderly woman the photos by post since she couldn’t provide a phone number or email address. In the meantime, she posted them on social media, along with a description of what had happened.

“You should [have] seen her face, when I tucked her in her bed after supper. She said her daughter won’t believe her, and wanted a ‘selfie’ to prove it, but didn’t have a phone or an email address. These photos are getting sent in the post tomorrow, can you even cope” she wrote.

The post attracted the attention of thousands of people, and it has been liked 8.5K times and shared by more than 2K people. A lot of people who found the story heartwarming and inspiring also left their comments, expressing their admiration for “Jack the Gentleman”.

“Jack, now that is a true in the moment act of kindness that will change that women’s life forever because you made one of her dreams come ture,” a Facebook user wrote.

And it’s probably true. Even the smallest act of kindness might mean the world to someone. Jack made one of this woman’s dreams come true and she will probably remember this gesture for a long time with a smile on her face. If we all tried to be less selfish and more kind to one another, the world would be a much better place.
