A 60th wedding anniversary most certainly has to be celebrated in a big way, and Joel Smith had a great idea to surprise his parents.

The man recently watched some old wedding footage of his folks Joe and Beverly, and he always heard stories about their first car, a 1948 Plymouth convertible. Both of them used most of their savings to buy the classic car, and their parents also helped out.

The car holds a ton of emotional value for the couple because they drove it on their wedding day.

Unfortunately, shortly after the wedding and after they bought their first car, husband Joe was unexpectedly drafted to the Korean War. With financial issues looming, the couple then ultimately decided that they’d have to sell the convertible.

Both were heartbroken by the idea of selling the car they used on their wedding day, but there was no other option.

60 years after his parents Joe and Beverly got married, their son Joel had a fantastic idea.

After seeing the old wedding footage with the car, Joel tried to find the exact same model on the internet and surprise his parents with an anniversary gift.

The man spent a couple of weeks trying to find one of the 1948 convertibles, but the search wasn’t exactly easy. The car isn’t really that popular nowadays and finding one in decent condition was even harder.

However, just as he was about to give up, he came across an old and expired Craigslist ad for a 1948 Plymouth. It was the exact same model that his parents had, but the ad didn’t have any images.

After calling the seller, it turns out that he didn’t know how to operate a computer and couldn’t upload the pictures even if he wanted to. He did assure Joel that the car was in decent condition, so Joel sent over a friend who lived in the area to check on the car.

When Joel’s buddy confirmed that the car was just what he was looking for, Joel bought it, arranged for transport and the second part of his surprise plan could continue.

Joel came up with an excuse to meet with his parents, and he even avoided them for a number of days because he was secretly working on getting the car in pristine shape. One of Joe’s lifelong friends decided to help him out, and the two spent three days making sure the car was fully ready to hit the road.

When the Plymouth was finally in top shape, Joel simply drove on the driveway of their parents’ house. Someone who was in on the surprise filmed their reaction and it was absolutely heartwarming. They couldn’t believe what they were seeing!

Joe remarked that his son acted a little bit weird lately, but he didn’t think that he’d come up with a surprise like this. Joel handed over the keys to the convertible and Joe immediately became very emotional.

As you can imagine, seeing that car again instantly brought up some beautiful memories for the married couple and it’s as if they went back in time for sixty years.

And what’s the first thing you do when you get a new car? Take it for a spin!

Joe and Beverly hopped in and happily drove for a bit to rekindle some old memories.

Joel has also promised that the car will always remain in the family so that those memories can live on forever.

What an amazing anniversary surprise!
