For a lot of people, kids can’t be given serious responsibilities because of their age. They still rely on their parents for a lot of things which is why some adults don’t take them seriously.

Two young students proved that kids are responsible beings too.

Jacob Farris, a fourth-grader, and Tyler Thompson, a fifth-grader, were sitting with other kids when they noticed something odd about their driver. Larry Borchardt usually pulls over to talk to misbehaving kids on his bus.

However, Larry didn’t get up from his seat.

The two kids went over to check the driver. To their surprise, Larry was behaving oddly.

In an interview with KTVB 7, Jacob shared:

“I looked at him and he was leaning over with his hand over his heart breathing really heavily.”

At that point, the kids knew something was wrong.

Tyler noticed that Larry was blue. He wasn’t sure if he was feeling sad or bad so he asked if the man was okay. Knowing he wasn’t, they sprang into action.

Fifth-grader Tyler dialed 911 to call for help. Jacob, on the other hand, got out of the bus and flagged down other drivers.

In the same interview, the child said:

“A car pulled up and I started banging on the back of the door trying to get their attention for them to come up in the bus to help us, because we didn’t know where we are. I was thinking I was just going to get up and walk down to the end of the street and see what the sign was.”

Fortunately, a woman decided to help.

She climbed onto the bus and offered to help. A few minutes after, the police arrived at the scene. They were closely followed by a fire truck and an ambulance.

Larry couldn’t remember everything well.

He was driving his usual route when he felt a strong headache. He shared:

“I got a massive pain in my head, it really hurt bad. Then my vision went. I couldn’t see much of anything, everything was blurry.”

The kids’ actions earned tons of positive comments.

He’s extremely grateful for what the kids did. If it wasn’t for them, something more serious could have happened. They did the right thing and they acted quickly.

He told KTVB 7:

“The kids – they all seemed to know what to do. You’d think they would panic when they see an adult go down, but they stood right up and did what needed to be done, and I’m so proud of them.”

Even the administrators of the school and the bus company were proud of the kids.
