Teacher can’t handle students showing their true colors
It was one of those few times in life students showed up early to class.

Think back to school, do you remember the teachers that had a really big impact on you? I definitely do.

That’s for a reason!

Teachers are incredibly influential figures in our lives!

Chances are you remember the best and worst teachers you had. The best are infinitely more memorable though, because you think back and remember their name with fondness rather than disdain! Eventually, the worst teachers just become nameless, angry blurs in the back of our brains!

Well, these students wanted to show their teacher exactly what she was to them!

During some downtime between classes, Mrs. Eller’s 5th hour class came in a bit early to surprise her.

As you can see in the image below, she was completely unsuspecting of anything! She was just doing some work on the computer while waiting for her students to arrive!

One of the students in the class, Hannah Dorris, had the bright idea to show Mrs. Ellers exactly how the class felt about her!

Which is exactly why these students are coming in and surprising her with flowers!

Just look at her stunned surprise below!

Yes indeed, her students all LOVE her because apparently she’s the best!

From the YouTube video:

“[Mrs. Eller] has been going through some personal struggles. Her son has been very sick and in and out of the doctors office very often. We wanted to show her our appreciation and love for her. She is the most humble, caring woman I know. She will put her students before anything.

“Her name is Mrs. Eller! She is AMAZING!”

For a response like this from her students, she really must be extraordinary! Even really great teachers often don’t get treated like this!

It’s a shame it doesn’t happen more often considering

teachers are one of the most important factors in education!

From RAND:

“Teachers matter more to student achievement than any other aspect of schooling.

“Many factors contribute to a student’s academic performance, including individual characteristics and family and neighborhood experiences. But research suggests that, among school-related factors, teachers matter most. When it comes to student performance on reading and math tests, teachers are estimated to have two to three times the effect of any other school factor, including services, facilities, and even leadership.”

So to correct myself on my earlier statement, teachers are not one of the most important factors in education…

They are literally the most important part of your education!

But what qualities make for a good teacher?

Well, ASCD.org gives us a list of different contributing factors for what makes not only a good teacher, but an effective teacher!

  • “[Effective teachers] are caring, fair, and respectful.

  • Hold high expectations for themselves and their students.
  • Dedicate extra time to instructional preparation and reflection.
  • Maximize instructional time via effective classroom management and organization.
  • Enhance instruction by varying instructional strategies, activities, and assignments.
  • Present content to students in a meaningful way that fosters understanding.

  • Monitor students’ learning by utilizing pre- and postassessments, providing timely and informative feedback, and reteaching material to students who did not achieve mastery.
  • Demonstrate effectiveness with the full range of student abilities in their classrooms, regardless of the academic diversity of the students.”

ASCD.org also included a powerful quote from famous poet Maya Angelou which perfectly illustrates the importance of a good teacher:

“This is the value of the teacher, who looks at a face and says there’s something behind that and I want to reach that person, I want to influence that person, I want to encourage that person, I want to enrich, I want to call out that person who is behind that face, behind that color, behind that language, behind that tradition, behind that culture. I believe you can do it. I know what was done for me.” —Maya Angelou

The video is really very touching, and seeing Mrs. Eller’s reaction for yourself is more than worth the quick watch! You can find the video below, I really recommend watching it. But I’ll tell you now,

get your tissue box ready early!
