Some who are single dread Valentine’s Day. Mostly those who wish they weren’t single.

For teens, not fitting in or not being like everyone else—or at least what seems to be everyone else—can be devastating. While other kids who have significant others or secret admirers get showered with cards, chocolates, flowers, and more, some lonely souls get nothing. And it may feel like the end of the world to them.

That’s why what one 15-year-old Texas teen has done is extraordinary. He wanted to make sure that none of the girls at his high school had to deal with that kind of grief. So he did something about it. He bought a flower for every each and every girl there.

Jayme Wooley, who is a sophomore at Axtell High School, which is near Waco, Texas, noticed how some girls took not receiving a Valentine the year before. And it clearly made a lasting impression on him.

In an interview with CNN, Wooley said,

“Over the past couple of years that I’ve been at Axtell, not all the girls were able to get flowers and stuff. Sometimes, it’d just be a secret admirer or popular girls. It felt heartbreaking knowing that not every girl was feeling special.”

According to KWTX, what he did first was buy a flower for every girl in his class when they were all together on a field trip.

An Idea Blooms

It was after this field trip that he began to hatch a plan. Why stop at just the girls in his class? The school was full of girls, and there would be a good chance some of them would be left out, come Valentine’s Day.

Wooley took the idea to his mom, and with her help, he purchased 170 flowers. A flower for each girl from the sixth grade to the 12th.

Amy Gordon, Wooley’s mom, shared that she wasn’t surprised that he came up with the idea. She told CNN,

“He’s always been that type of kid. It made me happy that he was thinking about others and how he’s thinking about everybody and not just one girl.”

She even shared a photo of all the flowers lined up on her living room floor the day before the big day.

The Reaction

Understandably, this made for some very happy girls in Wooley’s school.

A fellow sophomore, Kennedi Sherrill, was one of the girls who received this thoughtful gift.

“He handed me a flower, and I thought it was really special because not everyone gets a flower on Valentine’s Day.”

While the girls were thrilled, the reactions didn’t stop there. Wooley’s mom shared that what he did inspired other boys at school to be kind and thoughtful as well. They’ve started doing things like holding the door open for girls.

As for her Facebook post, she’s been a little overwhelmed by the response.

“We’ve gotten several messages from older women around their 30s and 40s saying thank you and that Jayme’s their hero because they were that girl that never received a flower.”

And Jayme Wooley himself?

“I’ll probably never forget that moment of just seeing their faces brighten up,” he said. “I don’t want anybody to feel less important than anyone else.”

And girls? This guy doesn’t have a girlfriend of his own. I think someone ought to change that, don’t you?
