In the past, when prom rolled around, most of us were stuck going with people we actually knew.

Now, with the power of technology, more and more kids are gathering up their courage and asking their favorite celebrities to be their prom date.

Now, as you can imagine, most of the time this results in very little. Every once in a while, though, a celebrity goes out of their way to make a young fan’s dreams come true.

Back in 2017, famous Kardashian member Kylie Jenner (right) attended the Rio Americano High School prom with a junior named Albert Ochoa when she was online and came across a story of him being rejected by his crush.

On MTV’s show Once Upon A Prom, famous singer Rhianna chose to attend a high school prom with a blonde teenager named Richard.

And here, we see actress Vanessa Hudgens accompanying fan Cesar Guerrero to his Sylmar High School prom.

As mentioned, this is becoming a trend, so it’s no surprise that an increasing number of teens are now pulling up their sleeves and asking their favorite celebs to prom.

Most recently, Katie Kelzenberg, a high school senior from Stillwater, Minnesota, decided that, for her final year in high school, she would be inviting her favorite idol to prom.

Katie is absolutely in love with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and says she admires his positivity and dedication.

“The way he interacts with his fans is so wonderful,” Katie said.

“It shows what kind of person he truly is.”

One day, after Katie had decided Dwayne would be the perfect date, she sat down and filmed a video “promposal” which she then uploaded to Twitter, tagging the star.

She also uploaded the following photo:

Katie knew the chances of The Rock responding were slim to none— so, when a couple days passed and she got no reply, she didn’t think too much of it. By a few days after that, she had pretty much forgotten about the whole idea.

Flash-forward to the Friday after Katie invited The Rock to prom. She was sitting in her homeroom class at Stillwater High when a man’s voice came over the loudspeaker, suddenly filling the room.

“Good morning to the Stillwater Area High School students, this, as you might have guessed, is Dwayne Johnson… also known as The Rock.”

If their expressions are any indication, the students are 100% confused.

Katie, shown above wearing a burgundy sweater, may have started connecting the dots by now, but she holds off on getting excited until she finds out what is going on.

The Rock goes on to say that he’s here to surprise a special girl named Katie Kelzenberg, and the teen was shocked. “I was like, ‘Who’s talking?’ Then I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s The Rock,” Katie told Star Tribune. “Then he says my name.”

Upon hearing her idol say her name, Katie immediately bursts into tears.

“Katie, I’m sure you’re so embarrassed right now, but I just want to let you know, I appreciate how cool and awesome you are for inviting me to your prom,” the star continued.

Although Dwayne sadly could not make it to Katie’s prom as a result of his filming schedule, he does have a surprise in store.

But, I’m not one to ruin surprises— see it for yourself, below!
