While we cherish our dogs at home like family, there are parts in the world that do not treat them the way we do.
For some countries like Cambodia, dogs are viewed as food sources, which would mean that these animals are often captured and slaughtered for consumption.
The rampant abuse of dogs is a result of this food choice, and it seems to be a problem that is too big to tackle. Fortunately, there is one organization who stands up to fight this practice, and to save these unfortunate dogs.
One of those good people is Michael Chour, a rescuer who is also a part of The Sound of Animals. He is a rescuer and in one of his missions, he went to a meat farm in Chomkachek, Cambodia wherein he discovered a slaughterhouse. In his visit, he encountered a dog he knew needed to be saved.
Among the dogs that he saw inside a cage, a pup in the back area caught his attention. The dog’s name is Sweety and Michael instantly wanted to save him. He acted right away to do the necessary steps in saving him from the house that would have been the last place the dog will be.
Had Michael not decided to save the poor pup, Sweety’s life would have ended in just a few days after they met.
As for the other dogs in the batch, The Sound of Animals took careful steps to rescue them as well. It was a huge task, but they succeeded and was able to save the dogs who were with Sweety in the cage.
The said organization’s advocacy is to save animals from the meat trade all throughout Southeast Asia. They have rescued hundreds and hundreds of dogs who are in line for slaughter. For their rescue mission in the meat farm where Michael went, the organization was able to successfully free 17 dogs from the death row, Sweety included.
The mission of The Sound of Animals to help the dogs does not end with getting them out of the meat farm.
After their rescue, the dogs are taken care of by making sure that the animals are free from disease and any form of infection. Temporarily, the pups were taken to a medical facility in O Smach, Cambodia, where they received immediate attention to address health issues.
Once cleared in all the assessments done in Cambodia, the pups were eventually transferred to Ban Kruat District, Thailand where the main care facility is located.
During the stay of the dogs in the temporary care facility in O Smach, Michael and Sweety was able to make a reunion.
The instant they saw each other was a heartwarming moment that Michael will never forget. Sweety was fine, but she still looked like she was confused of everything that’s happening around her. She is visibly frightened and Michael saw this, too.
When he reached her cage, Michael immediately held her and gave her a tight hug. And once Sweety felt his warm embrace, the dog did not want to ever let go of the man!
There was an instant connection that Michael could not deny.
After their endearing rendezvous, Michael realized that Sweety is a special pup that he would love to bring into his home. Unlike other rescued dogs that he took to the shelter, Sweety was someone he knew was worth bringing to his own life.
Michael decided to adopt her so that he and Sweety will never have to say good-bye to each other ever!
“All dogs have the right to a life of happiness, but some of them touch my heart more than others,” he said. “She is one of them.”
