First dates can be terrifying.
First, there’s the setting of the date.
We stress wondering:”Who should ask who, where should we go, what should we do?”
Then comes the struggle of what you’re going to wear and who is going to pick up who.
Then there’s the date.
You’re forced to make awkward conversation all while wondering if you have food in your teeth and whether or not you’re going to end up making out.
Dating is weird.
Twitter user Tim @forwardnotback happened to observe one very awkward date.
A very awkward date that one very kind waiter tried to save.
It all started when a young couple sat down next to him at the restaurant where he was enjoying his Sunday dinner.
Tim assessed that the couple was having their first meal together.
And like a gentleman, the male on the date told the woman she could get whatever she wanted.
To be polite, she asked: “Are you sure?”
He insisted.
She seemed excited to check out the menu but when she got her hands on it, her face fell.
But his face went a little white when it was time for him to look at the men. The prices were very high.
Still, he then asked if she wanted an appetizer.
She insisted that they split the bill but he told her again that she could have whatever she wanted.
They then held hands.
After some more going back and forth with niceties they began to lock eyes.
But then the wine list came.
She again pleaded to let him pay.
Again, he insisted and said he would opt for a coke or a water but wanted her to have some wine or a cocktail.
Then came his smooth talking. At this point, Tim wanted to stand up and applaud them.
She ended up just ordering exactly what he had: roast beef and a glass of water.
The couple then held hands tight.
The restaurant’s waiter noticed how thrilled Tim was while watching this couple and how hard the man was trying to make sure his date was having a good time.
So, he decided to kick things up a notch.
He “just so happened” to forget that a free glass of champagne comes with the roast beef dish.
The couple was thrilled and immediately ordered a glass each.
Tim wanted to jump up and hug the waiter. Now Tim wanted to do his part. He picked up their bill.
“I needed to leave before I said something like ‘please let your love last forever,'” Tim explains.
The waiter said it was a “lovely touch.”
“We’ve all been that young man,” the waiter said.
To which Tim replied: “Sometimes life is lovely.” You can see his original post in the thread below.
