Woman With Down Syndrome Lives Out Biggest Dream

October 24th, 2018

It’s not every day that we get to see our dreams come true. But for one lucky woman, she got to see it and experience it.

Tracy Sharp, a woman with Down syndrome from California, had always wanted to become a flight attendant. It was her dream.

While taking a flight from Texas to Sacramento, Tracy met Vicki Heath, a veteran flight attendant from Southwest Airlines. The two hit it off immediately.

“Just look at that smile!” Vicki recalled from their meeting.

When Vicki heard about Tracy’s dream to become a flight attendant, she was inspired to help make her dream come true. Why did Vicki go out of her way to make this opportunity possible for Tracy, you might be wondering?

“You’re going to make me cry,” Vicki responded to the question asked by CBS Sacramento. “I feel like I’m living my purpose driven life, and that’s huge.”

Vicki made a few calls, and a few months of planning later, Vicki had great news for Tracy: she asked her to be her “assistant flight attendant” on a Sacramento-to-Seattle flight in August.

Needless to say, Tracy was thrilled about the opportunity.

She got her very own set of official Southwest “wings”, along with a lanyard of pins, an official badge and accompanying photo, a backpack, and other gear to prep her for her flight.

When Tracy found out about Vicki’s offer, she was so excited that she immediately grabbed her phone to spread the news.

“I told the rest of my family about it,” she shared.

On August 31, 2018, Tracy and Vicky departed from Sacramento International Airport and arrived in Seattle. The pair also flew back together.

Tracy was a natural flight attendant, performing exceptionally well during both flights as she walked down the aisles to assist passengers.

Tracy’s parents also joined Tracy during her dream flight. And the best part? Her parents were celebrating their anniversary, and Tracy served them a glass of champagne each for the occasion.

“It’s just amazing what they’re doing for Tracy,” Tracy’s dad Terry told reporters.

“I can’t believe that she gets the opportunity to do something that she’s wanted to do,” Tracy’s mom Linda added.

The passengers were incredibly supportive of Tracy, sharing their excitement to fly with her and sharing high-fives as they boarded the plane.

When the flight landed safe and sound, Tracy was rewarded to the sound of a huge round of applause.
