Young boy offers to pray with Tulsa cops through ‘really really tough times’

September 15th, 2020

For being so young, this boy certainly understands the importance of kindness and compassion during difficult times more than some adults. His actions speak so loudly that it sets an example for others, to take a minute to appreciate those around you.

At only 7 years old Try Elliot understands the power of prayer, and knows the world could use it. Between protests and the pandemic, there’s a lot of pressure on police officers to do the right thing and keep everyone safe. Trey could see this pressure, and wanted to something about for them.

The story started when Trey asked a police officer if he could pray for him at a cookout. The moment was captured on camera by his mother and went on to be shared over 11,00 times. From there, his small act snowballed into a big dream of his- praying with the entire Tulsa police department, a force with over 800 officers.

“It seems like there’s some really, really, tough times. I just think it will help them.” His prayers for the Tulsa police quickly spread throughout the city and also across multiple platforms online.

When the local news found out, they immediately wanted to talk to Trey about his goals and why he did what he did. They also didn’t leave without ending their visit with a surprise for Trey- more officers looking to pray with him.

The local news knew that Trey’s goal was to pray for every officer in Tulsa, and he was only at 12 when they spoke. They knew they could make his day just by bringing a few people by to get his numbers up. “How did you do that?” he asked amaze when he walked out to see them all waiting.

The group of four officers and Trey gathered around and held hands in a circle. After Trey prayed for their protection and their city, he ended with an amen and some of the officers began to tear up. In these tough times it’s not often people take a moment for their safety, let alone from someone so young who understands.

“God please protect these police officers, their family, and their town or city- Amen.” Though short and sweet, the gesture meant a lot to everyone he has prayed with so far.

“Theres not an officer in Tulsa that wouldn’t pray with him.” said one of the women that stopped by to pray with Trey at the interview. “You made me cry happy tears little man.”

His mom Brittany couldn’t be more proud of him. She knows he has a great heart and loves seeing what faith looks like through the eyes of a 7 year old. She just wishes more people could see the world like Trey does.
