When most of us hear that new police bodycam footage has been released, the news is almost never good. Thankfully, there are some videos that we ALL want to see, particularly the uplifting ones. In a video released by the Gwinnett County Police, we get to see a truly heartwarming situation that two officers encountered.
The Gwinnett County Police Department released a video of bodycam footage from Sgt. Nick Boney’s camera.
The video isn’t what you might expect when you hear about leaked bodycam footage! Thankfully, this is an uplifting example. During a random audit of bodycam footage by the Gwinnett County PD, they discovered an interaction between Sgt. Nick Boney, Ofc. Jimmy Wilson, and a little girl who had just turned one.
The video shows the two officers approaching a woman on the sidewalk, who was trying to get home.
On Twitter, the Gwinnett County Police wrote:
“During a random audit of police body cam videos, a supervisor found this interaction (Jan. 10) between Sgt. Nick Boney, Ofc. Jimmy Wilson, and a woman whose daughter had just turned one. The woman was holding a bouquet of balloons trying to get home to her family on a cold night.”
Walking up to her, they ask where she is heading, to which she replies “home”. The two officers then kindly ask if she would like a ride and she gratefully accepts.
What the two men didn’t know at the time was that the woman was on her way to her daughter’s first birthday party.
As she gets into the car, she tells them about how excited she is to see her child, plus everything she wants to get for her. Like any good mom, she wants her daughter to have a cake, some gifts, and people around who truly love her!
Upon hearing this, the two officers decide to pitch in and get the little girl a cake.
Keep in mind that the two men haven’t even met the little girl at this point! Regardless, they still wanted to show extraordinary kindness and help her out. With a quick exchange of credit cards, while the woman wasn’t looking, they started their plan.
Once they got to the woman’s home, they surprised her with a birthday cake and some big hugs.
Without a single bit of reservation, a small child ran up to the officers as soon as they entered the door. Now, it was time to tell her what they had for her! At that moment, Officer Jimmy Wilson walked in with the cake and candles.
The entire family was extremely grateful for the random act of kindness from the two officers.
With everyone sitting in the living room, the little girl blew out birthday candles for the very first time. It was a sweet moment that everyone will remember for years to come. Was it a big event that was super well-orchestrated with a big budget? Of course not. In fact, it was all the better for it.
