An adage says: “Chances made us neighbors, but hearts made us friends.” Sally and Brody indeed prove it to be true. The beautiful friendship between a furball and a lovely old lady takes place in Mount Vernon.
KOMO news decided to cover the story about their heartwarming friendship, and that’s how we all found out about Brody and Sally’s incredible bond.
We bring you a tale of optimism, joy, and loyalty.
Sally and Brody are each other’s next-door neighbor, and there is nothing but the grass between their two homes.
No fence, no barrier, just an open space for a dog to run around. It turns out that Brody, a 2-year-old Saint Bernard, is a curious creature full of love.
He had to take a peek into the garden nearby. That’s where he found Sally Reenhorn, who welcomed him with open arms.
Brody’s owners are Dave and Eddie Mazzarella, and they adopted Brody when he was just 12 weeks old.
“As soon as we brought him home,” Dave says, “he disappeared.” The four-legged, fluffy doggo has always loved to wander around the neighborhood.
No one knew that he found a perfect reason to disappear. He spent days in Sally’s yard.
Sally is an old lady who lives alone, and she was delighted to have such excellent company.
When interviewed, Sally explained that Brody was so cute when he bravely appeared at her door for the first time.
Reenhorn didn’t have any dog food, so she gave Brody an old bread. The puppy loved it, and it became their tradition.
“To this day, you will not believe it, he will not take dog food from me! He only wants bread from me!”
When Dave and Edie found out about the friendship between Sally and Brody, they were more than happy to share their unlikely story on Dave’s Instagram account
Brody’s dad is no stranger to social media. Dave also has a Japanese chin named Lulu, and he regularly posts photos of Lulu and Brody and their newest adventures.
Sally also appears in some of the videos, and it is more than evident that the energetic dog makes Sally happy. Some of the videos went viral, and Brody and Sally became quite famous.
Up until Sally went to a senior care facility, Brody was a regular guest at Sally’s house. He sometimes visited her more than three times a day.
The puppy loved to follow Sally around the garden when she was watering plants. Other days, he would enjoy sitting by her side. They cuddled a lot. Because of her age, Sally could no longer live alone, and she had to move to the senior care center.
The Mazzarella family stayed in contact with her, and she often informs them that she’s doing fine. She even made some new friends, but she never forgot her furry friend Brody.
Of course, Brody couldn’t forget Sally either. She missed her so much, and Dave knew that he had to do something about it.
After seeing how, sad Brody was, his parents decided to take him to see Sally. Dave picked up Brody in the care, and the two made the drive to the facility. It’s perfectly understandable, and we would have done the same thing. Brody was so sad. He would often fall asleep at Sally’s porch, waiting for her to come back.
The reunion of Sally and Brody was the happiest day for both of them.
Sally is originally from the Netherlands. As soon as she saw Brody, she flushed him with sweet talk in her Dutch accent. The dog was melting in Sally’s arms. He became a regular visitor at the senior care facility, and all was good again.
It’s the kind of happy ending we all love to read about. We hope that many more years of fantastic adventures are ahead.
