We have all had that moment of panic when we think we lost our wallet or when we know that we have lost it. The feeling of dread sets in when we realize how many things have been lost and how many things need to be replaced or canceled. This happened to Kayla Tartaglia when she lost her wallet that held her cash, credit cards, license and a key to her house. She had lost it in a Wawa store so she was hopeful that someone had turned it in.

“I called to see if anyone had turned it in and they said no, so I kind of just gave up and thought someone stole it.”

As luck would have it, when she checked her mailbox the next morning, there it was! Someone has returned her lost wallet with everything still inside. Finding your lost wallet in your mailbox might be one of the last things you would expect. Especially because she said not even a penny was missing. Along with the returned wallet was a note that was placed on top of it that said,

”I found your wallet at the parking lot at Tyson and Brous at 5:30AM on August 1 walking by. My name is Jim. I am homeless. I hang out at McDonald’s at Cottman Ave.”

Her wallet was saved! She mentioned that she was most worried about the house key that was in her wallet because if it had gotten into the wrong hands, who knows what would have happened? She might have had to change her locks along with canceling all of her credit and debit cards. Thanks to Jim, that did not happen. She went over to the McDonald’s that Jim had mentioned in his note with the CBS news reporters to thank him. He told news reporters,

“I wouldn’t take it. I just put it in. I didn’t even bother to look what’s in it and I just put it in the nearby mailbox.”

Kayla said that her view of humanity was flipped upside down after finding her wallet safe and sound without a single thing missing. Jim’s random act of kindness really helped Kayla that day. Otherwise, she would have spent the day canceling credit cards instead of going to Wawa to thank him.

”It’s a good thing to do, return something. And what would I want with her bag?”

Kayla said that this act of kindness made her want to do something good for somebody else. To show her appreciation to Jim for his act of kindness, Kayla gave him all of the cash that was in her wallet when he found it. The same cash that he did not touch when he returned the wallet. Hopefully, Jim’s random act of kindness inspires more acts of kindness from other people. Random acts of kindness could spread like wildflowers: if you see or experience one then you give one. The world would truly be a better place if there were more people like Jim.
