There are a lot of perks to having a twin. You get to borrow clothes from each other, granting that you have the same size, or go to Halloween and wear “twin” costumes. You can play friendly tricks by swapping places.

Having a twin also means you have someone constant in your life. You also have a constant buddy for the rest of your life. And that buddy could be your fiercest competitor and biggest inspiration.

The Deevers Twins

Alex and Dane are identical twins born in Tampa, Florida. As kids, they grew up doing everything together. And like any other twin, they did mess around people.

They used to tell people they have twin telepathy and could think of the same thing, something that kids their age believed at some point. Alex said they loved messing around with people with their little twin joke.

Growing competitive

All the messing around ended, and the twins grew up to be more competitive with each other.

“We were kind of pretty competitive with each other and trying to, you know, we were kind of pushing each other a lot,” said Dane told FOX.

“You have somebody else with you who is doing the same amount of stuff, challenging you… You don’t want to get ‘one-upped’ by your brother,” Alex added.

Push to be better

That mini sibling rivalry and friendly competition grew into a brotherhood that made them be better versions of themselves. Alex and Dane pushed each other with one goal: to excel in school in whatever way possible.

Double celebration for the Deevers

Everything they worked hard for paid off when they realized they were both graduating as salutatorians with a 9.12-grade point average. This is a rare feat in Wharton High School in Tampa.

From their friendly competition to the point that they pushed each other to be better, Alex and Dane could credit their success to each other and their sheer determination and hard work.

Road to 9.12 GPA

How did this set of twins get to where they are? It was simple: they took every opportunity to get that grade and excel in everything they did.

They loaded up their scheduled and enrolled in AP and honors-level courses. Add to that their dual enrollment at Hillsborough Community College. Plus, both Alex and Dane played sports.

It would always be a mystery how they got the same average, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was that they achieved something incredible together, and they couldn’t be prouder of that.

Together and apart

Speaking of pride, one person was so proud of their achievement: their mom.

“They work together as a phenomenal team. And they’ve always been like that. They care very much about each other, and I’m so excited that they’re all going to be in college together,” Stephanie Deevers said in an interview with FOX.

Yes, you read that right. Both Alex and Dane planned to go to the University of Florida together. However, they also decided to go their separate ways as Alex dreamed of becoming a doctor, while Dane wanted to become an engineer.
