Home Is Where The Heart Is

We all have stories from our hometown that shaped us into being who we are today. There’s no denying that through all the good and bad times were moments that defined our character and strengthened who we were going to be.

Given what can be said about one’s origin, a family from Branson, Missouri decided to pay tribute to John Denver’s, “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” in honor of the spirit of returning back home.

The Petersens are familiar to the breathtaking scenery of the Ozarks with its gorgeous rivers and mountainous views. For over 10 years, the Petersens have shared their amazing musical talents with people travelling to Branson.

The family decided to share a video detailing how they used to live back in West Virginia and that’s why they became inspired with their own version of the song. “Our dad grew up in West Virginia and some of our fondest childhood memories take place in those hills,” the family wrote on the video description. They family also mentioned that John Denver was considered a “family favorite.”

A Treat Of Talent

The first person who started to sing the song was Katie Petersen. Katie, who was also the eldest among the siblings, also is talented enough to know how to play the fiddle. Next to Katie are her siblings Julianne Petersen and Matthew Petersen.

After going through the first verse, the instruments swiftly grace the airwaves and come together eventually to highlight the chorus. Julianne and Matthew act as pillars of support for Katie in order to introduce a synchronized harmony.

The newest member of the family band, Emmet Franz, plays the dobro instrument which can be seen being played by traditional bluegrass bands and country bands as well. Funny story: The banjo player, Ellen Petersen, was actually so talented that he decided to audition for American Idol! The mom of the family, Karen Petersen, strokes the bass with ease. She does not disappoint when it’s time to bring down the hammer! All of the performers looked extremely graceful with their instruments and did a fantastic job in each of their roles.

This wonderful ensemble proves how wonderful it is to bring the memories of your childhood into awareness. It is really heartwarming seeing those that take these ideas and spread them onto others with the simple gift of music. The Petersens have also made different renditions of other classics such as “Jolene” by Dolly Parton. Their history of musical excellence stretches for some time and will keep going for many more years to come!
