Sometimes, words are powerful enough to ruin anyone’s self-esteem and morale. It’s very easy to be mean to strangers nowadays since most people communicate online – specifically on their social media pages.

It’s hard to comprehend how some people can just carelessly attack you with their comments. But a young teen from Indianapolis, U.S. refused to be subjected to humiliation as one troll fat-shamed her on Twitter.

Prom is perhaps one of the most anticipated events for any highschool student. It’s a special night wherein couples pair up or some brave souls decide that it’s about time to ask their crush to be their dance partner for the night.

It was indeed a special night for highschool couple Madison Haulter and Tre Booker since it was also a celebration of their one-year anniversary.

The couple had been regularly sharing pictures of them together online as they post their love and affection for one another. So naturally, when they attended the Pike High School prom, the pair shared a series of adorable photos showcasing Madison’s pink sequined gown and Tre’s color-coordinated bow tie and corsage.

Madison recalled the moment she saw the dress online saying:

“When I ordered the dress online, I wasn’t even thinking, ‘What will other people think of this? Will I stand out?’” Madison told FOX59.

The loving couple blissfully enjoyed the night as Madison went home and checked the notifications on her phone. She expected her friends to positively respond to her prom photos – but this complete stranger’s comment absolutely shocked her.

Madison decided to cancel the hate and retweeted the comment along with her reply.

The teen didn’t expect to receive an overflowing response of love and encouragement not only from her friends but also from total strangers online.

Of course, her knight in shining armor came to her rescue as Tre defies the fat shamer’s comment.

Since then, Madison received thousands of retweets and likes for the way she shut down the trolls with a simple statement.

“This is the craziest thing ever. I never expected this to happen. I just thought my friends would reply and that’s it.”

Madison also hopes that more people would think twice before they send out a mean and degrading comment to others, saying:

“I just want people to realize the power behind their words. You can’t sit behind a computer screen and say anything you want because your words can have a big effect on other people.”

She also mentioned that since the post, she also received tons of DMs from curvy girls who were inspired by her smart response.

“I’ve had a lot curvy girls DM me and say, ‘Wow you’re inspiring me to have more confidence in my own skin.’ And I just want people to realize that you can be curvy and still be beautiful. And you can be an interracial couple and still be beautiful.”

Tre also received tons of praise for his comment about the issue. He has done such a wonderful job of being a loving partner that it seems like Madison’s father has given him his blessing.

“Tre is a young man full of integrity with a genuinely good heart and treats her like a queen. They both have good heads on their shoulders, and it’s fun watching them grow together. That’s all her mother and I could ask for concerning our daughter’s relationship.”

The couple is clearly meant to be together since they just got married earlier this year.

Some people say that true love is hard to find, luckily Madison and Tre found another. It’s inspiring how they avoided going down to the level of these haters and instead they showed the world how love can overcome all negative emotions.
