While some people are an open book when it comes to family issues and stories, others prefer to keep things private. Neither one is right or wrong, just a personal preference. But for those who don’t mind sharing, there’s often some valuable lessons if people only listen.
Who is Tim Tebow?
Every sports enthusiast knows who Tim Tebow is. But for those who don’t, he’s a world-renowned athlete. Before becoming a professional baseball player for the New York Mets, he was a pro football quarterback. At one point, he also worked as a broadcaster.
Wanting a son
Before he was born, Tim’s dad, Robert, served as a missionary in the Philippines. While it’s beautiful there, he struggled with the abundance of women having abortions. It was at that point in his life, he began asking God to give him a son, one he’d name Tim. And he vowed that he’d raise that son to believe in and worship God.
Family prayer
Although Robert Tebow believed he’d have a son, the rest of the family joined him in prayer. This was something they wanted so badly and they felt it was God’s will. At the age of 37, Pam became pregnant.
High-risk
Finally, Pam Tebow was expecting. But due to her age, the doctors claimed what she thought was a baby was simply a mass of fetal tissue. That meant there was no viable pregnancy. To save her life, the medical experts urged her to have the “mass” removed.
Trusting God
For Robert and Pam Tebow, this wasn’t a decision they were willing to make without a lot of prayers. Fortunately, the doctors were wrong. But Pam had an extremely difficult pregnancy. Even so, they continued to trust God.
They believed
Robert and Pam had prayed diligently for a son and as promised, they’d call Timmy. Pam gave birth in a Manila hospital and sure enough, it was a boy. But the most amazing part is that after delivering him, the doctors discovered the placenta had been improperly attached the entire nine months.
Fast-forward to his college days
While attending the University of Florida, Tim played football. He was so good that in 2007, he was awarded the Heisman Trophy. He then moved on to play for both the New York Jets and Denver Broncos as part of the National Football league.
Relying on his faith
Although Tim has a solid reputation for being an excellent athlete, he’s so much more. He’s never been shy about voicing his belief in Christianity. As a matter of fact, people who know him well say he’s rather outspoken on the topic.
Touching hearts
Not too long ago, Tim’s mom gave her testimony on social media about how the doctors wanted to abort the “mass” growing inside of her. In response, she received an outpouring of love and support. Now as a grown man, Tim doesn’t take his good fortune for granted. Instead, he gives his mom’s prayer credit for both his success in sports and his faith in God.
A miracle
First, Tim was identified as nothing more than a mass. Then, with the placenta issue, it was a miracle he was born…healthy and strong. Today, Pam speaks to groups of women around the globe. While visiting pregnancy crisis centers, she shows young women how they can choose life over abortion. Both he and his mother are also heavily involved with special needs children.
Pam knows that being pro-life is challenging in today’s society. But she serves as a great example of what prayer and faith can do. Had she and Robert followed the doctor’s suggestion, there wouldn’t be the Tim Tebow that millions of people love and admire.
