When moving into a home or having people settle in next door, you never know what kind of neighbors you’ll end up with. While some leave a lot to be desired, others are truly good-hearted people with the best of intentions. And once in a while, you get a neighbor who does something so miraculous that the story goes viral across multiple social media platforms.
A typical day
To the Salgado family, New Year’s Day didn’t seem special other than it was the start of 2021. The mother, Nicole, lives in a home in Avondale, Arizona, shared with her husband and four kids. But on this day, they could never have imagined what was about to happen.
A loud noise
It started when Nicole heard a loud banging on the front door. Since it was only 7:30 a.m., everyone inside the house was sound asleep. But the banging noise combined with the ringing of the doorbell didn’t stop. In fact, it became louder and more frantic.
Checking on the kids
Startled and afraid, Nicole went to check on the couple’s four kids. At the same time, her husband went to investigate what was going on outside. As soon as he opened the door, he saw his neighbor, Carolyn Palisch.
Confusion turns into a nightmare
Still feeling a little sleepy, Mr. Salgado didn’t understand what on earth she was doing. But that’s when he heard Carolyn yelling that the house was on fire. That’s right, while they slept, their home was burning to the ground.
Reaching safety
Without wasting a second, he got all of the children outside. Remember, they were all tucked in their beds. So, none of the children had shoes or socks on, excluding the eldest child. Thankfully, the temperature was relatively warm.
Complete shock
According to Nicole, “It was just kind of frantic at first, making sure we got everyone out and the dogs out. Then once we realized the full extent of it, we were just in shock as we watched our home burn.” What a horrible way to start the new year.
A total loss
Fortunately, the Salgado family and their pets were safe. But they lost everything they owned, including the house. Shortly after escaping to safety, the roof collapsed. Immediately, every room filled with smoke.
Stark realization
The scariest part was what the firefighters told the family. If someone hadn’t woken them up, they could’ve easily all died. If they hadn’t perished from that, the smoke would’ve been their demise.
A guardian angel
That’s what this family considers their neighbor, Carolyn. Her quick action and persistence likely sparred everyone their lives. But here’s the amazing thing. This woman’s warnings were caught on the Salgado family’s doorbell camera.
Forever grateful
Mr. Salgado summed up the family’s feelings. “Never did we think it was going to blow up the way it did. But we are so grateful. We are so glad it did for Carolyn, to show how amazing she is.” And he’s right, she became a hero that day. They now think of their neighbor as family.
Wild footage
At this time, officials are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. Considering this family lost their home and all their personal belongings, someone set up a Go Fund Me fundraiser. That’ll help them get back on their feet.
